Ideally he is looking for a J2EE Developer with 10+ years as a developer and strong experience using Spring and EJB Frameworks working in an Agile environment.

 

Responsibilities / Job Description

 

Looking for a Sr. Java/J2EE Developer with a strong personality and excellent communication skills.  Someone who will add ideas/energy to the current group, not just a heads down coder. Operating within the core values and operating principles of the organization leads the development activity in planning, designing, developing, implementing, and supporting new or revised processes, systems, or networks. Acts as a mentor to less senior associates by leading, training, and answering technical questions. Provides technical leadership through proactive research, recommendation, and incorporation of new development solutions and methodologies.

 

-All Primary Duties and Responsibilities should be performed without supervision or technical assistance.
-Develops an understanding of life Insurance Company's business strategy and competitive environment. Translates and implements business strategies into technology solutions.
-Understands how Life's systems interact and integrate.
-Serves as a mentor to Application Development and other Business & Technology Solutions staff members.
-Assist and/or train other team members on assigned applications and departmental technologies.
-Establishes, maintains, and enforces development guidelines and standards for all platforms. 
-Prepares and maintains or oversees the completion of all appropriate application system documentation and technical documentation for code produced.
-Guides the usage of existing technology and processes in a new manner or incorporates new technology into the corporate environment.
-Presents technical solutions to business partners and senior staff using business terms.
-Acts as lead on corporate and internal projects; providing WAGs, establishing the design, directing other development team members, approving specifications, validating estimates, and reviewing code, test criteria, and output.
-Provides the perspective of an acknowledged expert or specialist during the creation of Business and System specs.
-Ensures that functional and technical design support corporate objectives, satisfy the business partner's needs, and comply with Life's technology plan and existing architecture. 
-Analyzes existing systems (manual and automated) and processes and designs systems to resolve business issues. Identifies opportunities for improving business processes. 
-Conducts design walkthrough with business partners and Business & Technology Solutions staff.
-Designs and codes complex to moderately complex systems; ensures end result adheres to the written system specs.
-Works with the team to develop complete implementation and contingency plans.

-Accountable for the following project deliverables:
•  Design meets the objectives of the project and satisfies the business partner
•  Design incorporates all aspects of new and existing systems
•  Development team's technical documentation
•  Development team's code quality

-Develops innovative approaches to resolve moderately complex-to-complex problems. Assures that standards are maintained and are consistent with cost-effective objectives.
-Adheres to department directives, standards, and procedures.
-Promotes and strives to achieve service level objectives.
-Define processes and appropriate checklists for transition of software/projects to the Production Support team
-Provides and promotes a favorable image, teamwork, cooperation, and a service philosophy throughout the project team and among any external contacts normally engaged by team personnel.
-Provide technical direction and oversight for software configuration management standards and software build/deploy processes, including leadership in correct usage of tools such as Subversion, Ant.

Required Experience 
BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience required.
•             10 years of overall IT experience.
•             7 years working experience with enterprise software applications
•             5 years of Java Enterprise experience
•             Designing, analyzing, coding, testing, implementing and documenting complex systems and programs
•             Evaluating complex systems/business processes, understands the interdependencies between components
•             Evaluating state-of-the-art hardware and software products
•             Strong understanding of Service Oriented Architecture and related technologies.
•             Strong understanding of Java EE APIs such as EJB, JDBC, Servlets, JSP, JSF, JNDI, JTA, JAAS, JMS, and JCA.
•             Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle Database.
•             Strong understanding of XML and related technologies.
•             Experience in all phases of the systems development life cycle.
•             Experience creating application security solutions and with multiple application security models.
•             A significant amount of architectural design and how to architect high-availability environments.
•             Strong understanding of software configuration and release management techniques, while accommodating concurrent development, including robust code branching strategies and version control. Hands-on experience using and configuring Subversion preferred
•             Exposure to Windows, Linux / Unix, and OS/400 environments deploying Java based systems.
•             Understanding of Web 2.0 and AJAX technologies.
