Re: [MTC Global] ESIC to close down 400 medical, dental colleges across country

This is again one more instance of The Government conjuring up half baked schemes and abandoning half way. Why the ESIC did not realize earlier that running MBBS was not its business ?. Even if they do the work they are supposed to do, they can be the raison de ere of their existence.

The greatest disservice to our nation has been done by the controlling body called Indian Medical Council- rigid norms, arbitrary posturing , lack of accountability, all have ensured that the medical education did not grow to meet the needs of either the country or the aspiring students- This is especially true for the postgraduate courses such as MD , MS, etc , where the no of seats available against the demand from students is a very small fraction. This was perpetrated by the IMC so that private Medical college Managements could make tons of money. There was a rogue director, Dr Ketan Desai, of IMC who was kept in the seat for 20 long years (how was he able to stick on to the post for that long?). When the ED raided his house following a red handed catch of accepting 2 crore bribe , they found RS 1600 crores in cash in his house!!! Some monumental bribe taking!!!!
The IMC has been disbanded/reorgaized and fortunately we have a clean and ideas-man Dr Devi Shetty (of Narayana Hrudalaya), who suggested a lot of reforms in the Medical education sector. Hope he is able to do something
