Re: [MTC Global] Google cannot replace teachers, says UGC Vice-Chairman

A good teacher can impart more knowledge than 100 books.
If common sense is highly uncommon, good teachers are a rarity.
Why is there a dearth of good teachers?
Answer is simple - Teaching is changing minds of pupils & infusing knowledge --

that is a challenging task.
Very few can do it, with finesse & precision. No wonder - Institutions need Good teachers
& are always chasing them..,,,

Google or Youtube or Wikipedia are only Technologies & Tools to learn. Even a brilliant student can absorb only a part of knowledge & information from these Technologies. Education wont be complete without one excellent teacher every year- from KG to Phd.
Google cannot be compared, comprehended, contemplated with a Good Teacher. Google is an information provider, a hub. Teachers are much beyond Google ; they are Nation Builders.

What the Vice chairman wishes to say has nothing to do with teaching and learning.

Imagine students as little monkeys..copying everything that a teacher does or say.

Little children learn by observing and copying. Google contains all kinds of stuff. What do we know what the child is copying.
Regulating is a tough job.

We need good teachers...so that we have good future citizens.

Thanks

The University Grants Commission (UGC) Vice-Chairman H. Devaraj has underlined the need for imparting quality education to students.

Delivering the convocation address at the 8th annual convocation of Tumkur University Devaraj said that Google cannot replace teachers and only 'gurus' can give good direction to students.

Instead of depending on information available on Google and the internet, students should attend classes regularly to enhance knowledge, Devraj said.

Lauding the rich culture and heritage of the country, he called upon the younger generation to emulate the values and ideals of Indian culture. As many as 100 'Kaushala Kendras' (skill development centres) would be established across the country to help students, he said, reported Hindu.
