Dear Cameroonians,

British scientists have released an article outlining more serious side effects of Paracetamol . Paracetamol is an over the counter drug . That is you could purchase this medicine  without prescriptions. It is indicated for treatment of  mild to moderate pains and is widely used to treat signs and symptoms of common cold  including headaches, body aches, and fever. Therefore, Paracetamol has two major effects : anti -fever agent and pain killer.

So far, Paracetamol is known to cause acute Liver failure if high doses are consumed. That is more than 8 tablets of 500mg in a space of less than  six hours.

According to new findings, Paracetamol has other serious side effects including gastric and duodenal ulcers which could cause severe/fatal bleeding.

The most serious warning is that of taking paracetamol with alcohol. This is potentially dangerous as this could lead to bleeding and Liver failure says the study.  The best thing according to the study is to avoid paracetamol after consumtion of huge amounts of alcohol.

Fako Heart is simply reporting a recent article broadcast on Radio-TV, and Papers with a view to protecting the wider community.

With Best Wishes.
