RE: [MTC Global] Odisha to introduce vocational education from upcoming academic session

Dear sir,

Thank you for updating us regarding proceedings of NVEQFS.

The programme was developed under the guidance of Prof. Mantha(ex-chairman of AICTE).

NVEQFS focuses on Employability of candidate rather than only eligibility.

This is really a welcoming step by government which will help in  eradication of unemployment and poverty from the nation.

The concept of NVEQFS will bring drop outs and aspiring student back on the track due to flexibility of re-joining the course at advance level as experience will also count to proceed to next level. It will also breed essence of research among school students from beginning of education.

Let's put our efforts to make it affordable and available for each and every students inspite of his/her location. Please generate awareness regarding such type of courses among street and slums'  children and in their parents.

Thanks n regards,

Chiranjib Kumar, PhD

Subject: [MTC Global] Odisha to introduce vocational education from upcoming academic session

The Odisha School and Mass Education Department has decided to introduce vocational education for students of 30 Government-aided schools from 2015-16 academic session.

The Budget for the vocational course was approved at the Project Advisory Board (PAB) meeting of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA). An amount of Rs eight to Rs 10 crore will be sanctioned by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to Odisha under RMSA for the purpose.

The move is a part of the national drive to provide vocational training to 550 million students by 2022 under the National Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF). Similarly, the State Government aims at checking the dropout rate and promoting skill development of students by introducing vocational training in Classes IX and X on a pilot basis.

Reportedly, the aim is to start the project at Level 1 (Class IX) in 30 Government-aided schools with the goal to make students employable when they complete secondary education. There will be four levels for each year till Class XII after passing which students can enrol in vocational courses at degree level.

The project will be jointly funded by Central and State Governments under RMSA with sharing pattern of 75:25.

Industry-driven trades like computer repairing, automobile technology, travel and tourism and information technology have been identified by the department to be taught in schools. These trades are based on National Occupational Standards set by Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) in association with National Skill Development Corporation. The MHRD, however, is yet to give go ahead to the department for imparting training on automobile technology to students. The other subjects, carrying 100 marks each, will be offered as additional compulsory subjects by rationalising the existing content for Classes IX and X on a pilot basis.

At present, full-fledged vocational courses are being offered at Plus Two level in 231 Government Junior Vocational Colleges (GVJCs) and 641 Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) in both private and Government sectors, reported New Indian Express.
