This will be more of a Linux Systems Deployment Engineer

Cassandra Deployment

Linux Admin/engineering

Implementation of Cassandra platform

Working with automation tool Puppet

Tuning Cassandra Platform

Virtualization background in Linux

Working with Large Scale Distributed Systems

 

Hadoop not needed, but Cassandra is a must

 

Overview:

·         Deep Linux skills

·         Linux engineering experience

·         Distributed DB, NoSQL Cassandra

·         Ideally a Linux engineer with large scale Assandra deployment. 20 node data cluster – other project is 40-50 nodes (so larger clusters with a lot of servers). So, need experience in a previous large environment ideally

·         Lead the design of a large scale Cassandra deployment for a critical Best Buy application

·         Implement a large scale Cassandra deployment on RHEL 6.X leveraging a virtualized (KVM) or bare metal deployment

·         Implement the Cassandra platform leveraging infrastructure automation via Puppet

·         Participate in daily sprint meetings and provide updates to assigned tasks

·         Assist in tuning the Cassandra platform

·         Operationalize the Cassandra platform by transitioning knowledge to a service provider

·         Provide Level Three problem escalation, support, and troubleshooting

·         Create and maintain technical documentation – operational run book, standards, and supporting documentation

·         Ensure compliance of all solutions to established security guidelines, approved standards, and approved company policies

·         8-10 plus years' experience Linux engineering experience (preferably RHEL 5.X and later)

·         3 years Linux virtualization experience (preferably KVM and RHEV)

·         Experience with large scale distributed systems

·         1 -2 years hands on experience working with at least one major NoSQL data platform (preferably Cassandra)

·         Hands on experience with infrastructure automation and at least one scripting language (preferably Puppet)

·         Able to use a wide variety of open source technologies and tools

 

Soft skills:

·         Social Skills ideally (work in a team and not stay in corner and never talk)

·         Can work independently….must have the confidence in their experience

·         Things always changing/shifting – must be ok with every day different

·         Self starter, flexible

 

Day to Day:

• Sit at desk with other engineers – collaborative environment
• Hands on the keyboard delivering this functionality - focus on delivering for the project
• Participate in daily scrum meetings – provide updates, communication with teams etc.
