Dear MTCians,
-- The Happiness Quotient (HQ) proposed by Prof. Sai Kumar is quite interesting. It quietly encompasses interdisciplinary knowledge and concepts including those from Psychology, Economics, Mathematics, Spiritual Science and Religious Studies.
Buddhism strongly advocates constant check/control on desires. Despite being a "less developed country (LDC)" and having a low per capita income, Bhutan is voted/rated as the happiest country in the world. There is a moral and message here for individuals, families and nations. The idea is simple but profound. It asserts that wellbeing is more important than wealth; people are more important than profits; affection is more important than affluence. Contentment is, thus, stated to be a continuos feast. It's our collective responsibility to promote happiness in the world. Peace, progress and prosperity should always have happiness as their underlying (both implicit and explicit) goal.
Regards,
Surender
