Dear Dr. Usha Rani,
Based on my experience and understanding of last 15 years in academia in India and now outside India, I have understood few things as mentioned here under:
1. Self bench marking is important, based on Kaizen principles across the People, Process and Product dimensions of the universities and institutions in India.
2. Instead of rule books, anybody competent in respective disciplines or super specialisation or cross functional areas, should be encouraged to contribute in academia.
3. Institutes should select faculties on the basis of their competencies and proven track record and the management should understand that a faculty cannot serve all purposes at the same time. They should select some faculties, who will drive forward the research activity in the institutions, some will provide required administrative support like placement etc, Premier institutions in India and abroad, mainly in UK, select many faculty members, who have proven expertise on certain technically relevant areas to prepare the students for already signed projects with big corporates, government and non government agencies.
4. In UK system, CASE SCENARIO is equally important at per with CASE STUDIES. In CASE SCENARIO, students are given frequent exposures to real life situation and asked to prepare their regular assignments based on their chosen organizations. It is evaluated, whether the learners can apply the theories in the real life situation in CASE SCENARIO based assignments. It is not one time project like Summer Project practised by ordinary Indian management schools, but is a continuous process.
5. We should arrange a seed project or research project fund. Every faculty member should be given exposure to carry out funded research with these seed project funds to be carried at a smaller scale in Industry. Here, a faculty will be a research coordinator and will be supported by enthusiastic students in the project team. It is a very common practice in good universities abroad and also in premier and tier 1 institutions in India.
6. Instead of semester end examination, we should emphasise more on continuous evaluation of the students. It is already practised as per AICTE requirement compliance, but not implemented seriously.
Other knowledgeable, friends and colleagues can also contribute more in these regards.

--exactly from the beginning we need to improve. but days are not like when we were in primary schools. sometimes our parents used to come to schools to interact with class teachers. But now if any parent goes to school their wards many not like because their friends may question them why your parents came to school. our wards used to feel bad when they question in this way. Many changes took place in the attitude of parents and their wards. If any teacher strictly implement any disciplinary action parents come and make noise in the school. It becomes a political issue.The management will remove such faculty/teachers because they want public support and to avoid public nuisance and politicians support. Management think, removing such faculty who follow discipline, is part of social responsibility. Similarly many business organizations fulfill social responsibilities to make profits. So remaining faculty will not take any initiative for the want of job and family responsibilities. So entire system got damaged. I feel at least every individual should feel responsible and frame a system where ever they work in coordination with colleagues.Still even in this case we have 20% (on an average) of people who follow ethics and values in every organization . It might be also due to not allowing of Indian market to foreign universities and institutes on Indian soil. Till China opened its territory for setting up foreign university campuses, even same Chinese universities were not given good ranking by the rating agencies. I think some of the universities and institutions really deserve high ranking from India, but they have been made deprived only due to the some of sort of vindictive mentality of the rating agencies against the government policy of non allowing foreign universities on Indian soil. I am associated with British education system for almost last one and half years.I have seen even some good ranking universities of UK are nothing much superior in terms of curriculum or like that. We should not also be guided by western rankings, but should give honest effort to keep on setting higher benchmarks against world's best continuously. We will definitely get the result. Why we expect more when we are doing less.
Are we promoting young teachers.
A professor not having any research paper make rule for indexed research paper for young teacher for promotion.
A professor not having single consultancy project make mandatory a consultancy project in API.
Are we serious on syllabus revision?
Are we serious while giving load to junior.?
Are we serious in fixing increments for junior?
We feel only when we see our position globally.
