Subject: Re: [MTC Global] [Case Stuy] Losing Control of a Class
Dear friends
Let us better not blame students, nor the govt. for fee reimbursement. Perhaps We can not do anything on it. If we keep on blaming, we may not find the way to solve the problem. To my mind and hope all others in the present forum will agree that there is a power shift from the hands of the case teacher to the hands of the students during a case discussion when comparing with the teachers delivering the course through lecture.
Students due to inadequate level of understanding sometimes drag the discussions to out of context. Its natural. Here, some factors play significant roles:
Selection of the case, the lesson- the case teacher wants to derive and deliver, selection of the lead questions that can involve students, 360 degree understanding of the case etc. are crucial.
Class may have some virus. The teachers can deactivate them by asking them relevant questions.
Thank you

dear all, today education is available on free of cost in A.P state. it leads to many problems to teachers and the parents. students are not listening to teachers or parents. fee reimbursement is a very good project for giving an opportunity to the poor students for technical and higher education. but some colleges are doing business.government will take some necessary steps to overcome these problems.introducing jumbling system in final exams may be a remedy for avoiding mass copying and malpractice. because of self examination centers many colleges are producing B.Tech and M.Tech certificates--On Tue, Jun 23, 2015 at 7:15 AM, Ramesh Vemuganti <vemugantiramesh@gmail.com> wrote:Ramesh VemugantiregardsThanks for all the lovely sharing & the brilliant PPT.Definition of the word TEACHER - elaborating each letter is enlightening & if a Teacher implements it the same way, it is a stupendous justice to the teaching profession,Dear Pious Thomas 23/6/15I liked your mail.
To teach Management to Divya, you must know Management & also Divya.

On Fri, Jun 19, 2015 at 2:23 PM, Prof. Bholanath Dutta <bnath.dutta@gmail.com> wrote:--It might be every professor's worst nightmare: losing control of a class with no hope of getting it back on track. That appears to be what happened this semester at Texas A&M University at Galveston, where a management instructor threatened to fail the entire class for poor behavior before the university intervened. The professor described a class full of students who wouldn';t do the work, who weren';t performing according to his expectations and who were consistently rude to him. The specific case certainly appears to be an outlier, and questions remain about how and why the situation got so extreme. It nevertheless captured the attention of fellow faculty members, probably because many have struggled at one point or another with classroom management.
So how can instructors get a class back on course when it's veered left or right or, better yet, prevent it from straying altogether?
