Hot-desking has been adopted by many companies in the recent decade. Some companies even make it compulsory for employees to work from home, one day a week. This approach becomes a win-win situation, as these companies are able to cut down on their office space rental while being able to fulfil the business goals.
Many universities today follow the same principle. They recruit some faculty who exclusively delivers class online to the students by using LMS. This is the way universities can get good faculty resources from anywhere in the world and also reduces cost in many fronts. Indian institutions also need to follow the same model and it is proven very effective.
But, we do not know, whether AICTE/UGC allows such arrangement as those faculty members are also need to be shown in the faculty strength and for all other purposes.
