Re: [MTC Global] [Weekend Discussion] Co-authorship

What does one do where a research guide insist on having her name first on the papers published during the PHD reserach?

What does one do when the same guide steals material from phd and puts it up on a site and claims its her and doesn't even give credit to the phd student?

Should the student take her to court?

Or leave her with warning of dire consequences?

Or tell the guide that she has been caught?

Phd guides should not be allowed have their name as first name...on the paper published from the phd thesis.

And incase they have done something like this...the papers should be singled out and the credit deleted from their research achievements.

Not all thesis are bought..not all thesis are written by research guides.

Some are real painful work and are done with no assistance from the guide.

If I write it, it is mine. If you write it, it is yours. If we write it together, we share the authorship. But , in many cases, it is not true. [ Example:  Ph.D. Supervision] .  Number of paper increases to the credit of a supervisor , once  s/he guides more candidates .

Some supervisors claim co-authorship of every publication written during the candidature. Do not think that this is right, assumed, proper or the default setting. The authorship of papers need to be discussed
