[MTC Global] Teachers stage protest demanding arrest of student who attacKed Prof

Professors at the government college in Thuvakudi staged a sit-in protest demanding the arrest of a postgraduate student who had allegedly attacked a professor. The teacher sustained injuries on his head after being attacked by a student.

Periyasamy, 23, a first-year MA political science student and another student had been among the 15 students who were shortlisted for the college team to play in the intercollegiate cricket tournament which was held on August 26. However, the two were removed the team on August 25 on the grounds that they were irregular to the training sessions.

Apparently disappointed, Periyasamy had damaged the cricket equipment while players were rehearsing for the tournament on the same day. Subsequently, a college committee comprising of the professors recommended action against Periyasamy for his indiscipline, with signatures of the committee members.

Learning that Ashok Kumar, head of the computer science department, had actively taken up the issue, Periyasamy entered the college on Monday, allegedly attacked Ashok with wooden logs and fled the spot. Later, Ashok Kumar was rushed to the government hospital, Trichy for treatment.

Based on the complaint from Ashok Kumar, Thuvakudi police filed an FIR and were searching for Periyasamy, who is still at large. On Tuesday, seeking early arrest of Periyasamy and his dismissal from college, professors boycotted the classes and staged a sit-in protest on the college premises, ToI reported.
