Re: [MTC Global] Distance degrees valid for central govt jobs: MHRD

Dr. R.P.Singh
you are right, students with distance mode degree has right to compete with regular students,  sometime it has been seen that all distance mode students are not bad and all regular students are not good.

Dear Dr Padma,

Distance mode candidates should be allowed to compete with regular ones. If they fare better in competitive exams of central government , say conducted by UPSC,  why should they not be allowed to join those services.

I think, when govt allows distance mode degrees, it is natural to allow them to compete with others in govt exams. Else, there is no reason to allow distance mode degrees at all.

However, they should not be given any concession in assessment or evaluation process. The best suited as per the  system should get selected, regular or distance mode, notwithstanding.

I don't understand how can distance education claim same ground as regular.

Regular cndidates give years of their.life to a degree.

Where as distance education students persue degrees while working.

How can they claim benefit of both work and study...

It means those who are distance education cndidates they where right..to not take up regular education...and regular candidates where bunch of idiots..to lay waste their time.

Distance education.. should only be limited to industry and not education.

Otherwise those who pursued phd with job..they should be given benefit of both..and not have phd pursuing time deducted from their total experience.

I have serious objections to having distance mode candidates competing with regular candidates in teaching profession.

Dear members,

A pertinent discussion. However, even now some institutions mention that candidates with (so called) regular mode of educational degrees are preferred for the posts. Is it legitimate? Can anyone kindly clarify?

Many colleges / Government organisations in the job description mention "2 years regular program". This must go away and can be challenged by any candidate.

All distance education degrees, diplomas and certificates including technical education degrees and diplomas awarded through distance education mode by the universities with the approval of University Grants Commission (UGC) would be valid for central government jobs.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) has notified the rule in the gazette recently. The notification was necessitated due to several changes in the distance education sector. Earlier, the approval of all distance courses needed approval of the Distance Education Council.

The Distance Education Council which worked under the Indira Gandhi National Open University and worked as the distance education regulator was scrapped two years back and the whole gamut of distance education was shifted to UGC, the apex body of higher education.

"The central government hereby notifies that all the degrees/diplomas/certificates including technical education degrees and diplomas awarded through open and distance learning mode of education by the universities established by an Act of Parliament or state legislature, institutions deemed to be universities under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 and Institution of National Importance declared under an Act of Parliament stand automatically recognised for the purpose of employment to posts and services under the central government provided they have been approved by the UGC," reads the gazette, dated 10 June 2015, reported DNA.
