Teaching load norms is a tricky issue. There are two versions of AICTE load norms:

1. Average load 14 (teaching)hours/week irrespective of cadre (16+14+12=42, Avg: 42/3= 14 hrs/week).
2. AP: 16 (teaching) hrs/week, Associate  Prof.  12 (teaching) hrs/week, Prof: 8 (teaching) hrs/week.
3. 2 hours of practical are considered as one teaching hour. See the attachment.
4. Teacher's input /week is 40 hours, including teaching hours and other activities of three other components: Research and consultancy, Administration and Extension services.

Now the question can be resolved:

• A teacher is expected at the most 2 theories  and 2 practical in a Semester. Practical does include project and Seminar too.
• Juniors can be given only practicals.
• In some exceptional cases like Mathematics one has to deal with 4 subjects assuming teaching load 4 hours/subject as far as Asst. Professor cadre is concerned or the theory load can be reduced by assigning some other load like Communication skill practical, or project or Seminar. A judicious decision can be arrived at.

Subject: [MTC Global] Teaching load assessment

Shouldn';t load be calculated based on number of subjects and no of sections being taken by a faculty.

What happens when sections are single and for load to be given 18 , 12 and whatever
Additional subjects are give.

Is giving 4 subjects to a faculty justified..where he or she..takes 4 out of seven lectures being held in the time table.
