Re: [MTC Global] [Weekend Discussion-I] Faculty-student messaging protocols

The essence of teaching-learning process has two dimensions: intellectual excitement and student rapport. Like employee engagement plays a key role in industry, intellectual excitement (engagement) promotes learning of both teacher and taught. Among many things, elements like thorough preparation, organized approach, flexible methodological approach, etc., can promote intellectual excitement. Digital tools are the latest addition to education technology hopefully improving student-engagement. But the teacher needs to be more competent to handle such tools effectively. Research shows that the students who use digital tools extensively lag in subjects like maths, science, language, reasoning power, etc. Students from Eastern countries like Vietnam score more than the students of advanced countries like USA.

Use of digital tools, therefore, calls for some pre-requisites like teachers are well trained, tools are available at lower cost, judicious use without sacrificing the natural sense of learning, excellent feedback, etc. Teacher's warm, affectionate, loving approach towards students is found to be immensely rewarding for intellectual excitement.

Digital tools like smart phones, PCs, laptops, social media, internet, etc., play a significant role in the learning process but it is not the sole tool (accessory) for learning. Such tools promote intra and interpersonal communication, a key to learning faster that can be obtained without digital tools but needing with more effort. Please note this..

Subject: [MTC Global] [Weekend Discussion-I] Faculty-student messaging protocols

Effective communication between faculty and students is a critical element of successful learning. Many use the social media, email, telephone and many also use texting option to communicate with the students apart from face to face contact.

Request esteemed MTCians to share their views on the Messaging protocols between faculty -student communication.
