Re: [MTC Global] Odisha teachers demand increase in retirement age from 60 to 65

Not even practicing traditional method or any method. The same ways they are following and by now it has become easy as no one is there to tell them due to seniority basis on number of years in same place. They are showing their majestic power only.
They count their own money without looking to solve the social problems of unemployment issue. Rather they would have told by putting pressure on the government to make fresh recruitment by following certain criteria on year wise panel system.

I solicit any view on this point.

Thanks.

Those people are only concerned with their income.
But this is a complex issue too. The quality of teaching aspirants is a question, and at the same time the old ones do not bring difference into knowledge imparting (follow the traditional method).

By going through the mail I have thought to write few lines. When country has been suffering from huge unemployment causing wastage of human resource then why not youths are recruited. I feel there are no dearths of youths available for the job. I know one lady after clarifying UGC test is still idle. So enhancement of age "WHOLESALE" basis is not a good suggestion.

Teachers of state-run universities in Odisha have threatened to go on cease-work strike from January 1 demanding increase in the retirement age from 60 to 65.

They alleged that the state government was neither appointing new teachers nor increase the retirement age despite acute shortage of teachers. "Over 30% posts in state universities are lying vacant. Around 50% of teachers will retire by 2020 and only 20% will then be left to run the show," said joint convener of the Federation of Odisha University Teachers' Association (FOUTA) B Parasar.

The association said most states in the country have increased the retirement age of university teachers. "Central universities and IITs too have done the same, but teachers in Odisha are deprived of the benefit," Parasar said.

The association also demanded implementation of revised pay scale guidelines issued by the UGC from 2010.

Teachers from Utkal University, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Ravenshaw University, Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Fakir Mohan University, Berhampur University, Sambalpur University and North Orissa University under FOUTA expressed resentment over the dilly-dallying approach of the government towards their demands.

On November 30, the teachers will take out a candle light march and resort to strike if their demands are not met at the earliest, reported ToI.
