The objective of education, i.e. survival, like that of any living creature is well understood by human beings from the time immemorial. Only tools and techniques are got upgraded as one generation sits on the giant shoulders of preceding generation.
On the other hand education and training is done by all living creature save human beings only as a natural process of evolution that is not the case for human race that has instituted their own systems of (formal) education through academic institutes. Have you heard anytime that tigers are trained and educated in accredited schools?

Dear Sir, I believe the object of education is to provide the knowledge that will help an
individual face the challenges of life and change and become a useful member of the
Society. Towards this goal lies the vast region called employability. It poses the first
of the challenges to a person. The first test of competence is faced by a person in
becoming employable.
I also believe that a person becomes employable by others when he becomes self
employable. This calls for a lot of self knowledge which institutional education can only
provide partially.
Education for education sake means that the goal of education is education. Now this can
cause a great deal of confusion. Education in the first case refers to the means;a way of
learning while in the second case it refers to an end; a goal. As an example we find that
misers hoard money because making money serves both the means and the end. Such a hoard
is useless to everyone and even to the miser( it would pain him to lose it). To a person
studying anything just for the sake of studying may eventually become a hoard of all
kinds of knowledge, quite useless to anyone else.
Education is a means to attain changes in behavior, to become more refined, to become
good and useful, and to become sensitive to our world. If these ends are not served, I
believe that Education would be a curse.
Best regards,
K.Paranjpe
