[MTC Global] MHRD terminates MANIT director

The Union Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) has terminated the services of MANIT Director Appukuttan KK with immediate effect.

While not disclosing the specific reason behind his termination, Appukuttan KK has been asked to relinquish the post of director from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) and report back to his parent institution NITK Surathkal immediately.

However, Appukuttan is on medical leave for past two months and new director NS Chaudhary has already joined the institute on March 10.

Reportedly, for past few days, dispute was going on between Appukuttan and institute Board of Governors (BoG). He was allegedly involved in irregularities in construction work, including academic block. Professor Kuttan was facing several allegations, including delayed promotion of assistant professors, decline in academic performance and not releasing foreign tour grant of professors.

Appukuttan was appointed as Director MANIT for five years on September 6, 2011. His contract was about to expire on September 6, 2016. For past two months, he was suffering from urinary problem and went through major surgery. He was on two months medical leave. Meanwhile, termination order was released by MHRD, reported Hitavada.
