Re: [cameroon_politics] CAMEROON SUPER DELEGATES (THE REAL, BEHIND THE SCENES POWER BROKERS)

Massa Sour "Akata" Venus
Are you for real? Take note, we are not in a political science classroom here. We are in "Reality on the ground politics". Look at a candidate like Ted Cruz (the Cuban Canadian Texas Senator). The man barely squeezed his way to the US Senate after some "jonglage" to outsmart his opponent. He went to the Senate and his first real-time Legislative accomplishment was to shut down the entire Federal Government for almost three weeks. The man is hated not only by his fellow Republican Senators but the guy is "wickedness personified". A candidate for President who says the US should "Carpet Bomb" the entire Middle East to knock out "Fundamental Islamists"? U don hia dat kanna tok 4 wusai? Since moving to Washington, he started planning to be US President. For an intelligent Lawyer that he really is, he studied the flaws of the "Super Delegates" system(bounded and unbound) and mastered the art of bait and switch. He knows no one likes him but the Law being the Law, he started "Lobbying (we call that in Africa BRIBING)" the Super Delegates. Just yesterday, one guy declared on TV that he was offered $30,000.00 by the Cruz campaign to switch allegiance. Why then do you think that particular "Super Delegate" will not influence "Legislation" if Ted Cruz is allowed to become the President of the United States? Give me a break.

Massa Venus "Akata", another scenario: If Donald Trump now convinces this same Super Delegate guy to re-switch allegiance via "lobbying" by offering him more than Cruz did, will you still say the "Constitution does not offer him any powers?

Now back to Cameroon with President Paul Biya's appointed Senators. Name for me just one legislative accomplishment emanating from any of those Pahs (most of them former Government Ministers, PDGs) who were simply resurrected from their retirement to come back to the "Table". Tell me then how they are not Cameroon Super Delegates? It is now almost four years since they were "Selected". No bep beps. Just answer the question in simple language. For crying out loud, which Cameroon Constitution are you talking about? My mblalla, lef dat plaba so. Our Parliamentarians are Super Delegates. Un point, un trait. I know many of them are reading this stuff. Let only one be bold enough (even by using surrogates) to tell us their singular accomplishments in Yaoundé other than clapping their hands after the Executive has tabled Bills (Decrets).

My Dear Friends,
There are fundamental differences between the so called Super Delegate in the US primary election system and the non-elected Senators in Cameroon.
1-    The Notion of Super Delegates is only internal to the political parties in their primary elections, to pick a candidate to represent the party for the general election. Their powers are only limited to the political party. The Super Delegates have no powers to legislate the laws of the country precisely because they were never elected by the whole of the people in any given state. The notion of Super Delegate is only internal to the party, no more than John Fru Ndi is recognized as the Chairman of the SDF.
2-    The notion of a Super Delegate in the US is not in the constitution of the United. It is only defined in the political parties' own processes. So as Super Delegate in the US, you essentially have no powers in that capacity to anything in the Governance process of the country. You don't have access to Congress, you don't have access to any state legislative house, you really have nothing, except that which the party has designated you to be in its internal processes.
By contrast, a non-elected Senator in Cameroon is recognized by the constitution of Cameroon. And so the non-elected or appointed Senators have a real seat in the Senate and have the full power under the constitution to legislate and make laws of country on behalf of all the people of Cameroon even though they have no constituency and have not been elected by anyone. And this is very anti-democratic.
So while appointing Senators in Cameroon is a very anti-democratic process, the notion of Super Delegate in the US is not, because the title of a Super Delegate is only recognized by the party internals and not by the US constitution. Super Delegates have no constitutional powers in the US. They can't legislate anything, they have no house to sit in except at the parties Convention, and their responsibilities are dissolved after the party's convention. That is the big difference.
Thanks,

Mishe Fon,
This is a new revelation. I used to presume that every CPDM party member and/or supporter is a super delegate of the party, especially, since the president wins every election with or without an Opposition. Thank you Mishe.

Americans are really "Moumous" when it comes to real clear (or unclear) politics. The notion of "Super Delegates that they are suddenly discovering in both Parties" has been in our Cameroon Politics since Ahidjo and his CNU Party. When Paul Biya chopped Ahidjo's chair and renamed the Party CPDM, he closely followed the footsteps of his "Grang Camarade" by appointing his own Super Delegates also known as "Membres Influents". Today, those who act in that capacity are the unelected Senators". The caveat here is that, these respectable gentlemen and ladies are "Appointed to be Politicians". They are not beholden to "We the poor People" because they have never "hia ngeh" to campaign and merit their people's vote. They could care less about the aspirations of Cameroonians as they have no legitimate constituencies. As you are looking through the names, you would discover that some of the "Njimtetes" have long left this world, but they still remain Super Delegates as their so-called "Alternates" are finding it very difficult to take over in filling the vacancy.
