If attendance is compulsory , then it should constitute  x % of the final mark for the course .  Otherwise it makes absolutely no sense  to monitor attendance other than for safety reasons and a pure academic purpose ( perhaps to measure any correlation between attendance and performance or something similar) .

It is well documented in the literature that students work to what is being assessed ..   . ( backwash effect) .

Mind well:

1. Most of the universities specify 75% attendance compulsory.
2. Some colleges specify 90% or 100% attendance.
3. Under great system course credit is given to calculate the grace. The course credit earned assumes 100% attendance.
