Title: SQL DBA
Duration: 6 months
Location: Dallas, TX (must be local )
Mode: Phone and webex
Position Purpose:
· The Database Administration is responsible for the day-to-day governance and performance management of the system owned by the IT Operations team. As a core member of the DB Operations team, they will be responsible for administration, deployment, and operational support for SQL databases in a high available environment. They will actively participate in project planning, team building, business continuity, and compliance activity while having a strong customer focus.
Key Responsibilities:
· Responsible for tactical management and administration of MS SQL (2008, 2012, 2016) technology stack.
· Responsible for day-to-day design, administration, backup, recovery, data fixes, patching and maintenance of SQL
· Server databases and Always On clusters.
· Implement new technologies and SQL server based applications including SSRS and SSAS.
· Actively involved in ensuring daily operational tasks like incident tickets, change requests are met with sense of urgency.
· Seek ways to actively improve the stability, performance, monitoring, security, and backups of Database systems.
· Write and maintain database documentation, requirements and standards, communicating them to development teams and others as appropriate.
· Participate in project planning, scrum meetings and ensure tasks meet time to market metrics.
· Work closely with DBA, development, and infrastructure team for release management, operational management and performance tuning.
· Be proactive at identifying and fixing SQL Database and cluster issues to demonstrate stewardship of critical systems.
· Ability to participate in the on-call rotation for operational DBA support along with other DBAs on the team.
· Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· MSSQL server certification will be a major plus.
· ITIL Foundation certified preferred.
Required Knowledge
· Strong hands on understanding of MS SQL Server 2008R2, 2012, 2014 and 2016 installation, deployment, patching, monitoring, security and user management.
· Strong working knowledge of MS Windows, monitoring tools like Idera, Logic monitor or AppDynamics.
· Strong working knowledge of Database partitioning, PCI compliance controls within the database and SharePoint.
· Working knowledge of SQL Server high availability like Always on with multiple secondary read only replicas and no downtime patching.
· SQL server performance tuning including tuning indexes, sql tuning, PowerShell and writing T-SQL scripts to automate tasks.
· Working knowledge of SSMS, SSRS, SSIS and SSAS.
· Knowledge of ETL tools is required.
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives from various business units.
· Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience Required
· Minimum 5 years as a production support SQL Server DBA in all aspects of DBA and Database infrastructure tasks.
· Experience with OLTP and Batch Hybrid large multi-terabyte production databases.
· Experience managing High volume transaction processing (OLTP) environments, with 24/7 support and 99.999% uptime requirements.
· Experience performing in a Metrics oriented and SLA driven operational support.
· Minimum 2 years' experience as a development support SQL Server DBA handing QA and Release management tasks.
· Experience with Monitoring tools, ETL tools and Architecture design evaluations including process flows and batch processing.
· Experience working with diverse teams with focus on customer satisfaction.
· High level of experience with Database monitoring and performance tuning.
· Experience working with geographically dispersed teams and customer base.
· Excellent customer service, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
