Re: [MTC Global] HOW TO ANSWER: What Are Your Salary Expectations?

Salary as an essential and unavoidable determinant of job satisfaction and employee sustenance, both the candidate and the employer need to be very cautious in accepting / asking for it.

The following factors may play major role in such decision (from employer's perspective):
*   budget allotted for such role
*   need for such role
*   time needed to fill such vacancy
*   image of the company as a factor of employer branding and
*   availability of the skill in the market (If its a rare to find a skill, then the joining bonus is offered in the name of "Sign-on Bonus" which depends on the interest and willingness of both. Generally, its on condition that the proposed employee should fulfill certain assignment with success or targets, depending the specific role in a specific time period. If not, both will amicably settle with the refund of the same within the agreed upon period. Eg. Amazon and IBM offer such schemes)

The following factors may play major role in such decision (from employees' perspective):
*   last drawn salary
*   competition in the market
*   comparative / additional potentials of self
*   availability of such potentials in the local market
*   reason for quitting the last employment
*   comparative worth / image of the company chosen for new employment
*   priority for money in comparison with anything

Indeed a difficult question to answer as there are many  parameters on which the answer depends, lots of ifs and elses, for example, the profile and capability of the company to pay, background and competence of the candidate etc. A good student from top tier B school can demand 40L CTC to Google.  Know in advance what they are paying to the employees belonging in that grade. If you feel that suits you, then you attend the interview otherwise forget it. Once you decide to attend and if given the option, it is better to ask the figure that commensurate your profile.  Wealthy and progressive organizations never hesitate to compensate the right person but certainly that should not be an absurd figure. However, you can ask for more depending on your needs and wants for becoming a happy person. In case the interviewer says "sorry we can't afford that", the only option left for you is to quit.

Subject: [MTC Global] HOW TO ANSWER: What Are Your Salary Expectations?

Sometimes, this is the most difficult question for the students in interview so for the faculty changing jobd for  better opportunities.......

We know there are many ways to address the question like 15-20% hike on the last salary [Based on Marketing Correction], instead of quoting a figure give a band, as per existing norms, few ask for joining bonus etc...

Would love to hear some more views on the subject....
It would be useful for many of us.
