Even Supreme Court fine of rupees five crores may result in ultimate benefit of medical college giving 50-percent extra admissions than approved

It refers to hefty rupees five crores fine imposed by Supreme Court on Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) at Bhubneshwar (Odisha), an institution of the KIIT group by providing 'illegal' admission to 50 more students despite refusal by central government to exceed permissible limit of 100 students. But with medical colleges usually charging heavy charges for admission in some form or other, KIMS may be still in ultimate advantage even after paying fine imposed by Supreme Court.

Nothing can improve till some really effective punishment like including cancellation of land-allotment is done for defaulting educational and other institutions minting money out of land allotted at a highly subsidized rate by governments. Same should be applicable in case of hospitals failing to adhere to terms of lease-agreements requiring some minimum percentage of beds in hospitals built by private companies on land provided by governments on subsidized cost. It is noteworthy that Comptroller & Auditor General (CAG) of India had also noted irregularities in respect of land allotted to Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT).
