Dear Peter:
I know about your involvement in our struggle for quite a long time. I vividly recall when you arranged for me to meet Mr. Albert Mukong in one of the many conferences you organized in the early 90's on behalf of the Southern Cameroons. I flew in from Cameroon, via London (where I met with President Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia) to attend this meeting. Your commitment to our emancipation cause has never wavered ever since I first met you.
I am pleased that we now have a common understanding about "the active role or involvement of Christians in the enhancement of corruption in Cameroon". However, one point of clarification: I mentioned Governor Oben Ashu simply because he was the sitting Governor who happened to have been in church when the incident occurred. It could have been any other person. I was not picking up on Governor Ashu.
Do you have any ideas that would help us attain our objective in a timely manner? Our struggle has dragged on for too long. Please, E-mail me directly using: nchifor2@yahoo.com so that we may brainstorm before going public.
Stay blessed.
Christopher.

It is not that I do not acknowledge the efforts of people like Cardinal Tumi and others, but recently the church, those promoting corruption are mostly Christians. I have been home in Cameroon now for about nine months and I am deeply frustrated and disappointed by Christians. I wrote that because if pagans take bribes or are corrupt, one may not so much bother. But you go to an office and a Christian takes money from you for a supposed government service and no receipt is issued. If a receipt is issued, if you gave 100,000 frs, a receipt for 60,000 frs or so and most of the time these are Christians. You go to Church, not a word is preached about the ills of the nation. And as I said, most of those at the top are Christians from these old denominations. I am not implying that everyone of them is corrupt or that every corrupt individual is from these three big denominations. I do not believe we should rely only on a few individuals. Oben Ashu is not the only corrupt Cameroonian who was attending church. There are millions of them. I believe the Church, especially the three big denominations must take it as a crusade to say like Ruth, "If we perish, we perish". Unfortunately, I did not read Mr. Nfor response to mine, but Mr. Nfor and his predissor, Lake Albert Mukong know my contribution to the struggle. What is making English speaking Cameroonians is the fat they are feeding from corruption and the perhaps deliberate silence by the Church. I wouldn't be bothered about the Oben Ashus. What bothers me is the canker that has eaten deeply into the fabric of the English speaking. The changes I have observed since I return, the corruption is the most alarming and where else can anyone appeal than the Church. I love my country and I mean Southern Cameroon but the Southern Cameroon I grew in is not the one I have now me. If we remove corruption, Cameroon as a whole could be a better plac and they would be no need for French Cameroon and English Cameroon. The Church is the only saving arena. Sir, Thanks

Dear Mr. Nfor:
The saying goes: "One person can force a horse to the stream, but one thousand cannot force it to drink."
I think that something needs to be done to ameliorate the poor reading habits of Cameroonians. In my humble opinion, we do not lack reading materials, but live in a Cameroonian culture that devotes little or no value to the written word. I have personally written two (2) books on the emancipation of the Southern Cameroons and realize that a copy, when purchased by one person is eventually shared by several persons who, in most cases, are not excited to interact with the written word. I hope that this poor reading culture will eventually change and your books (including those written by others) will be read and the information therein disseminated.
Congratulations for your efforts!
In conclusion, Dr. Peter Njang should not forget of the efforts of people like Christian Cardinal Tume and some Clergy of different Religious denominations in the struggle for genuine democracy in Cameroon. I remember late Rev. Father Peter Nzenkeng preached about the corrupt government practices in his sermons in Buea - Cameroon, in the presence of Governor Peter Oben Ashu who was in the congregation. I acknowledge that they could do more.
The Struggle Continues!!!

How do those of us in Cameroon get the books? The struggle continues and by God's mercy and grace, we shall overcome. The Catholic Christians, the Presbyterian Christians and the Baptist Christians are partially responsible for our plight because they are at the top of the government. Their churches are not acting as Christ did. When Christ saw injustice, He pointed it out. But these three main denominations do not preach against the ills of the unjust and corrupt system in Cameroon. 90% of those at the top of our government come from these churches. In fact, those who practice corruption in Cameroon are members of these churches. Every Sunday they go to church but Monday to Saturday, they take bribery, steal both from the government and ordinary Cameroonians. Their clergy should take one year and preach against corruption, stealing and injustice to Cameroonians, and especially injustice to Southern Cameroon by the Yaounde based regime. All of them no longer speak English but French and therefore killing our colonial heritage. We should not prefer one colonial heritage over another. If one is bad, both are bad. Cameroon is the only country in the world which discriminates by linguistic. What a shame and tradegy! Where do they have mansions? In Yaounde!
Dr. Peter Njang
