Re: [MTC Global] [Weekend Big Debate-I] Do you support curbing politics in Campus?

Dear Sir, I believe that there are two aspects of politics that need to be looked at
before deciding whether politics should be banned on the college campus.
The first feature concerns such ideas as ideology, constituencies, policies and programs.
This creates preferences and and aspirations.
The second feature is the actual practice of politics such championing for the chosen
preferences, gathering followers and getting acceptance from those institutions who
matter.
Of course closely associated with the practice of politics is the messy rough and tumble
of street activity ( it carries with it all that is inherently happens in the dark
alleyways of the society.

It would seem obvious that the first aspect of politics is inherently located in the
college campus and cannot be curbed in a democratic polity in an open and liberal
society. It must be encouraged but not at the expense of debilitating the very existence
of the environment that encourages dissent.

As concerning the practice, sundry political interest groups would encourage street level
activities, because they draw upon the youth to resort to a kind of activism that is
intolerant and sometimes even violently opposed to other groups. This kind of activity
may benefit a few but extracts a huge price from those don't participate in it. Such
practice is loosely termed "politics'. Of course, the activity should be discouraged and
proper forums formed for voicing protests rather than the street. This would be orderly.
Campuses of course bring in the police to chase the culprits and handle things when they
get out of hand.

becoming goonda rajs, unhealthy nexus between students with politicians and black

Leadership demand has been existing since man's birth. Even in animals and plants we do
find leaders. Any society/nation or world as a whole, human are after good or bad (anti-
social) leaders in any sector of society like political, literacy, religion, industry,
etc.

For example, in case of developing political leadership, one of the keys for good of all,
most of our political leaders before, during and after independence have been churned out
while many of them were/are in campuses, like, Lokmanya Tilak, Sawarkar, S C Bose, JP,
Lalu Prasad Yadao, Nitish Kumar, N Modi, Dange, etc. University campus is a learning
seat, a powerhouse generating ideas and building minds. Youth may select any ism as per
his attitude and mind set, consolidated his/her thought process and follow the path when
one enters in life affairs. Capitalism, communism, socialism, democracy, etc., are the
tools for good of people, the variant much dynamic to be used as per the nation's need
for survival.

We once adopted student elections in campuses, then withdrew and again adapted.
Unfortunately, faculties and politicians have been playing their role for the scenario
India has been witnessing since a year. Politics is like a blood flowing through the
nerves of people without any age bar. Politics in fact is omnipotent and omniscience. But
that at what stage and at what time it needs to be used is a matter of serious
consideration for nation building as youths are the future leaders of a country.

The remedy of curbing politics from campuses is more dangerous than the decease itself.
Let the students get acquainted with several isms and the ground reality of the nation,
let them select any ism for their future journey as a citizen, and do not allow active
politics of political parties in the campuses but they along with faculty and regulatory
authorities can be allowed to educate/train young minds in the national interest, without
any malice to none.

Students' Council like Teachers' Association, for instance, is a Statutory provision with
well defined objectives but hardly accomplished. Why? Curb active politics of political
parties in the campuses, and train young minds for their future journey as political
leaders. Do not make campuses a political lab!

Let me add another question. Every country needs leaders (good or bad) and they have to
be developed from young age. What should be the process of developing new leadership?
