Re: [cameroon_politics] Re: SUGGESTED GROUP TO TALK ON BEHALF OF THE SOUTHERN CAMEROONS(AMBAZONIA)

Great. Now the people on this list will have to schedule a meeting with the Government in about 2 weeks. These are some guidelines as to how to proceed:

1-                They should not rush. They should take their time to iron out all difference, to harmonize their positions and speak with one voice before meeting with the PM.

2-                Scope of the Meeting: These people will have to meet several times --at least 5 meetings-- to come up with a concrete list of items and the scope of the discussion with the government. The scope is what are the things being discussed ? Autonomy or Federation? If one or the other, what is the next list of things to discuss?

3-                Format of the meeting: They must also agree with the government on the format of the discussion. How will the discussion be conducted? How many people on this group with speak or read their speeches? After the general opening speeches, how will the open discussions be handled? How many people must be in the room?

4-                Rounds of talks. How many rounds of talk will there be? How many days will each round last? There must be at least 3 rounds of talks. Each round should last 2 to 3 days. DO NOT rush these meetings. If you don't know what to talk about, please take the time to read and study the subject of what you want. After each round of talks, they should come back home, meet with the people, evaluate their effectiveness, recalibrate and prepare for the next round.

People, negotiation is an art. Negotiation does not happen in one day or one meeting. It takes time to put all the ideas together, to discuss the format, the number of rounds of talks and the scope of the discussion. It takes preparation and planning. DO NOT rush it !!
The US took 6 months to negotiate the IRAN nuclear treaty. The UN sometimes takes years to resolve problems and sometimes does not reach an agreement like in the dispute between Israel and Palestine.
It takes serious people, learned people, knowledgeable people to negotiate.

DO NOT rush to pick these old chiefs who –with all due respect--  may not be competent to negotiate with the PM. This is how we got duped in the tri-partite in the 90s. We have respect for these chiefs, but they may not be knowledgeable enough, intelligent enough and with enough gravitas to inspire the respect it takes to win at the negotiation table.

I hope they get it right. I would suggest political parties be at the table because this is indeed a political problem that requires a political resolution. That is why it should not be rushed. Take the time to plan it and put a solid team together before going to the negotiation table or you will make a fool of yourself like in the 90s and the people we lost will be lost in vain. And then we will have to fight again another day for the same freaking problem !!

In my humble opinion, some religious leaders should be included. Like In the talks with the Prime Minister today In Bamenda we look forward to have our Religious leaders, after all they are key actors in the education sector.
