Re: [MTC Global] SRCC, LSR lead UGC body's scores for DU, Stephen's 12th

Thank you professor for sharing eye opening ground realities existing in our country since 70 years or so. but we could not work out a solution on the issue because of obvious reasons. Every stakeholder involved in the process hardly thinks about long term/larger/national gains, rather they focus mainly on temporary financial or other gains. The main stakeholders are management, students, parents, faculty, university, teacher's associations,  state/central Govt., public at large and all concerned Regulatory bodies. The system that has been breeding Shikshan Samrats can hardly meet the quality criteria of education.

It would be wrong to hold onto constitutional  provision which instead of development & growth leads to depletion and degradation of entire sectors. I have come across students from U.P., Bihar, Assam & even Delhi who were perhaps pushed into higher education ( PGDM) and their communication skills were poor. But the inhouse trainer & communication lecturer achieved success with those who were willing to undertake her classes and they did benefit in gaining confidence. Others who were good in spoken english chose to neglect the special classes in english communication and their performance lacked the punch. Likewise students from vernacular medium who have the zeal and passion to succeed would no doubt rise and shine and even scale new heights with scholarships but to hold the future of more deserving students for the sake of those who have been pushed into higher studies but don't have the passion or heart for it are doing a dis-service by depriving others who could be better performers than them.
How many PSU's have been non-performing? The reason behind them is the person at the helm of affairs who got through with the benefit of reservations bypassing other capable candidates. Imagine it took us more than 3 decades to develop a fighter aircraft and it is still to be inducted into the air-force for safeguarding our skies.
Also take a look at the Judiciary - I don't think there have been major landmark judgments because the corrupt Judges even at the highest level are from reservation quota.
Coming back to Delhi University, there are many Colleges who are registered under society & trust law and have UGC affiliation but they are merrily charging a good amount from the students - I was contacted by a gentleman who opened up this Pandora's box about the Fee Collection in DU colleges which amounted to Crores of rupees which went into the pockets of the trustees & other powerful people with patronage of political parties as well. Besides this there is exploitation of employees - especially females lecturers in these colleges. It is a different matter altogether that the cases are not reported as the Internal Committee pressurizes the victim with removal or suspension.
It is no wonder then that Education is failing and corporate who look for candidates who are equipped to deliver find the same lacking in even reputed institutions. In Evening Colleges, the faculties are mostly ad-hoc faculties who come as guest lecturers or are on temporary basis. As such their commitment is lacking. Some faculties are neither having good subject knowledge and are just content in teaching from the books rather than sharing useful insight out of the text. Corporate this year who went to IIT's did their picking but the scale they have offered is much much less - Quality matters which was found lacking.

Stephen

Sir
you are absolutely correct But Institutions / universities/ colleges should take measurements regarding SC, ST and OBCs . we should not blame the reservations and students.

Latest Bombshell which isn't surprising - St.Stephen's & Venkateshwara College which were among the much hyped premier educational institutions in Delhi have been listed no.12 & 14 respectively way below many other colleges, in the NAAC listing just released.
As I mentioned it is not surprising considering the quality of admissions : the reservations have ensured that the OBC's, SC's, ST's were given Free entry and meritorious students with very good percentage were left groping for admission in DU's Colleges and many from good English medium schools had to settle for "Evening Colleges"from among lesser ranked DU colleges.
A couple of years back while interacting with some student leaders I found that they were unable to even communicate properly in writing and even their spoken english wasn't good - this I found of students from Venkateshwara College & when I enquired, the general students were really saddened that they have to contend with a classful of not too bright candidates who were dependent on notes of better students. So you have a scenario where a Class of say 60 students has 20 very bright students with high scores ( 98% ) and 40 students ( SC/ST/OBC ) who are grappling to understand lectures in english and have gained admission due to a faulty system of Reservations.
The Lecturer would be in a dillemma : How to teach these 40 students in simplest lecture and language and on the other hand they need to educate taking the 20 students to a higher level.
This is not just the case of St.Stephen's & Venkateshwara alone.....almost all DU's - 77 colleges spread all across Delhi.
Now questions are being raised on the basis on which NAAC has listed the colleges.
