Job Description
BI Architect
· The Enterprise Business Architect is involved in shaping the enterprise in terms of its business frameworks, processes, information and governance that improves the business systems and the connected experiences for customers of the vehicles, products and services.
· This will be accomplished by taking a comprehensive, global "end to end", value focused approach; one that starts and ends with the customer as they interact with the vehicle and all of the products and services offered.
· Leads discussions to interpret and align strategic goals and objectives and related impacts on product and service decisions; partners and suppliers; organization; capabilities; and key initiatives.
· Responsible for managing and developing an integrated, enterprise level view of business value delivery, capabilities, organization, products and services, using a repeatable approach, cohesive framework, and industry standard techniques.
· Promotes, articulates and presents the business architecture across the company. Supports management for architectural decisions, meetings, workshops, and presentations. In this role, this individual is a trusted advisor to business executives.
Specific responsibilities include:
· Leads and applies a structured business architecture approach and methodology for capturing the key views of the business systems in the context of the enterprise.
· Crafts and articulates current and future state roadmaps for the business systems
· Mentors and participates on highly complex projects
· Contributes to the creation of business cases in support of the business transformation initiatives
· Captures the strategic and tactical business goals and provides traceability from clearly measurable objectives across the organization and through deployment, supported by well-defined business metrics
· Contributes to, and participates in, the governance for evaluating, tracking and reporting alignment to the business architecture
· Analyzes the business objectives, priorities and business impacts and makes recommendations on prioritization pertaining to initiatives supporting the products and services
· Creates high-level models that can be used in analysis to extend and mature the business
· Enumerate, analyze, catalog, and suggest improvements to the capabilities
· Articulate goals and strategies and guide the creation and articulation of actionable initiatives that can be understood and executed by business and technical teams
· Designs and recommends courses of action, approaches, and best practices and procedures needed to realize strategies and policies
· Develops blueprints and related perspectives necessary for the business architecture, supporting capability, organization, value and information mapping.
· Collaborate and maintain strong partnerships with business and technical stakeholders to communicate and drive business transformation initiatives.
· Act as an agent for change, who uses business architecture to business transformation initiatives and challenge others via business solutions, which drive requirements to the products and services.
· Act as liaison conveying information between the business and technical stakeholders to communicate and mentor the use of business architecture to frame, streamline, articulate, and reuse business requirements, processes, and business rules
· Guide and mentor other business architects
· May lead and provide direction to a team of individuals
· Stay abreast of trends, best practices and standards for the business architecture, automotive industry and related technologies
Skills and Qualifications:
· Extensive expertise in leading and managing business and architecture solutions for the enterprise
· Has a broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes, value maps and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.
· Strategic thinking ability to think about business in a way that is abstracted from how business functions are implemented by technology.
· Understanding of how markets influence business, what are the differentiating factors of the business, what and how values are created, and how strategy development is supported.
· Design thinking, which enables synthesizing of many ideas into big-picture view that shows the connection between business strategies and business systems.
· A good working knowledge of software solutions spanning cloud, web, mobile and vehicle.
· A critical thinker capable of solving problems within interconnected software systems
· Experience working within multiple types of software development and project management methodologies
· The ability to recognize issues within the organization, functional interdependencies and cross-silo redundancies.
· The ability to apply architectural principles, methods, and tools to business challenges and solutions
· Experience in modeling using a variety of tools and techniques
· Must have the courage to challenge the norm and define creative solutions for the problems that might arise
· Is comfortable dealing with complexity and defining work-processes, optimization methods and tools to manage risks
· Communication skills to communicate appropriately at all levels of the organization; this includes written and verbal communications as well as visualizations
· A Team player able to work effectively at all levels of an organization with the ability to influence others to move toward consensus.
· Works collaboratively and has conflict-resolution and negotiation skills to gain trust of others
· Strong situational analysis and decision making abilities
· Experience in managing and leading complex projects and experience leading a team
· Experience with SWOT, Porter's Five Forces Model and / or Strategy Mapping
· Familiar with architecture frameworks like BIZBOK® Guide Business Architecture Framework, TOGAF and Zachman
· Automotive, telematics and/or infotainment focused products and services experience preferred
· Certification in industry recognized Business or Enterprise Architecture preferred
· 10+ years of experience
· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Information Systems or Computer Science or equivalent work experience
About the role:
The BI Architect position is a cross-functional position requiring leadership, business acumen, and technical acumen in the delivery of business intelligence solutions for the company. Responsibilities include creating conceptual software designs, designing/publishing/maintaining logical data models, and providing technical and thought leadership within a project team in the end to end solution delivery of products on BI technical platforms.The BI Architect will require technical, communication, and leadership skills in working with other key roles such as Business Partners, Business Analysts, Data Architects, and Development Leads. Project data deliverables include data requirements, data flow diagrams, data sourcing plans, data privacy/security architecture, and conceptual database architecture.
The BI Architect will be expected to leverage their knowledge of business intelligence best practices along with cross industry data expertise and data modeling tool expertise.
Minimum Qualifications:
· 4 Year IT College Degree/Masters preferred or equivalent experience
· 7-12 years in delivering business intelligence solutions
· Experience working with data tools and technologies - data modeling, ETL tools, meta data management tools, master data management tools, database technologies
· Demonstrable experience in software design for business intelligence solutions
· Work with Business Partners, Business Analysts, Data Architects, Software developers to achieve project objectives - delivery dates, cost objectives, quality objectives, business customer satisfaction objectives, etc.
· Lead resolution of end to end data issues, data design issues and end to end data test issues for a specific project
· Strong experience with architecting large enterprise BI systems that are scalable on both a horizontal and vertical basis
· Validate business use cases for accuracy and completeness of proposed solution
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience with Cognos 10 BI architecture
· Knowledgeable on DataStage ETL practices and Oracle DBMS
· Moderate to advanced SQL skills
