Re: [boba-list] Re: Fwd: THE HIDDEN AGENDA OF THE NORTH WESTERNERS!!!!

This fellow's missive should not come as a surprise as there are many Victor Mengots out there amongst us. S/Cameroonians who are 45 years and younger (who happen to be in the majority, population-wise) were not privy to the machinations (if any) of our leaders in Buea. The few history books in circulation are very sketchy on the successes or failures of successive Anglophone governments. This whole NW vs SW thing is and has been a very clever manoevre strategically injected into Anglophone discourse  using their surrogates (CPDM types, wanna-be potential or former Ministers etc) to foment and keep the ideology alive thereby perpetually sowing seeds of distrust and "bad blood" to continue their annexationist and subjugation agenda.

I remember reading a newaper article where a certain Ngole Ngole (the SW version of NW Atanga Nji) when asked by a "planted" CRTV Francophone journalist "Quelle est la verite sur l'existence d'un problem tres grave entre les resortisants du NW et le SW"?
In a nutshell, here is what he said (in French):

"The problem we have in Anglophone Cameroon is that some (most Bamenda people) refuse the existence of any such problems BUT I am here to tell you in all truthfulness that we have very serious problems. There are ethnological, physical appearance, the way they talk, profound cultural and many other differences as most of you can attest between those from the NW and SW. For example, we Bakossi people have more in common with our Mbo and Nkongsamba people of East Cameroon (we speak almost identical dialects) than with Bafut, Mankon, Mendankwe, Bali, Ndop, Baforchu, Bameta or Banso people. Bakweri people are more attuned to Sawa cultural values than strange concepts from the other side. Yes, we have serious problems. I can go on and on but you get my point"...dixit Minister Ngole Ngole.

In reality, the good Minister (an intelligent fellow no doubt) did not answer the journalist' question but since he wanted to plant the seeds of intolerance and hate, he went ahead anyways with that ridiculous answer. Like most have opined here and correctly so, I am equally of the school of thought that after "the battle is won", we S/Cameroonians must sit down and TALK...a sort of "Truth and Reconciliation" National Conference where nothing will be swept under the carpet. Natty pass arrangement.

For those who remember a portion of our history; the annexation and subjugation of Southern Cameroons was hatched and engineered in Paris, France and the Hausa man Ahidjo was charged with executing the diabolical plan.

In play were three great politicians of timber and caliber (two from the NW) PM Ngom Jua and PM Tandeng Muna, PM Endeley from SW and another (NW) VP John Ngu Foncha forced by circumstances hatched yonder, to be a spectator with a moribund useless inconsequential window dressing title of "Vice President" of la Republique.

Did these gentlemen and all the other politicians of that era, make mistakes; you bet they did. Was it because of some "graffi bamendrous" under the table machinations and hegemony or over zealousness and high-handedness? Me I no sabi. I was not there in Buea and my father was a small "Native Authority Forest Guard in Ekiliwindi"...no where close to the echelons of Anglophone "PAWA" politicking.

If our real history was allowed to be taught correctly by Anglophone trained teachers in Anglophone schools, we would not be having the Mengots writing neeguisse about "The Hidden Agenda of the North Westerners" at this critical moment to poison people's minds when we need serenity and strategic focus to Fight the necessary Fight.

Ahidjo and his French backers craftily used their trusted confidant, a certain Bamoun man called Jean Forchive (the most dreaded Policeman cum director of the infamous secret police called CENER) to plant the seeds of discord between politicians of Southern Cameroons extraction. This led to very strong rivalry and suspicions amongst all Ministers from both the NW and SW that eventually culminated in the epic well documented battle between Ngom Jua and Tandeng Muna. History will recall that Jua lost that battle to Muna just like France and Ahidjo wanted. That was the end and gradual descent into political limbo of the very charismatic no-nonsense Augustine Ngom Jua and subsequently the beginning of a tactful annexation, disappearance of the Federation and the gradual but forceful implantation of FRENCH values to Southern Cameroons. It had absolutely nothing to do with any invented NW / SW divide. Wna don hia?

The duel between the two rival brothers; Jua and Muna was of epic proportions. It almost resulted in fist fights between the protagonists. The issue at stake? The French via their surrogate Ahidjo wanted at all cost to dismantle the Federal system agreed on since 1961 but which to them was anachronistic to French aims and ambitions in the rich sub-soil of Southern Cameroons.

Compatriots,

Mr. Victor Mengot's message is ill-timed and anarchous but is a pointer to what has to happen between us.

This struggle started as lawyers' and teachers' strikes and has now gone beyond their particular demands to include the the whole anglophone problem; marginalization and a calculated abandonment of the terms of the union by successive government regimes. With the federation having failed us and décentralisation a huge disappointment and that  has reduced the Anglophones to second class citizens  and at worst cycophants in their own land. This is why separation or secession instead of the 2 state federation, has gained traction and bold, devoted anglophones, be they from the NW or SW, are standing up to make the case. This isn't about who is leading who and who is dominating where.  But as we come together as one SC we should not be dismissive of Mr. Victor Mengot's idea that both NW and SW would have to sit and discuss the nature and functionality of any prospective governmental structure for SC. While I admit that it's premature to talk about this, it's not hurtful to think about it and to bring it up. After all,  we have all smelled domination and marginalization and know it's sconky odor.

Nonetheless Mr. Mengot injection is troubling because it's timing has the potential  to sow discord. His reference to the Chiefs Conference and their request for a ten state federation is trivial because the Chiefs both in the SW and NW have been a huge disappointment to the people they are supposed to lead. They're more concerned about the salary they are getting from the government and have chosen to either be docile or worse still work with the regime to brutalized their own people and subject them to abandon the course. Otherwise, let the chiefs and the fons hold their conferences now and  proclaim their stance and demands to the administration.

Enjoy your New Year in reflection.

At a time when we have a lot at stake, we need to be careful with voices of people like Victor Megots.
People have been planted or have planted themselves to steer up dust and blurred the vision of Anglophones so that this struggle for freedom will fail.
For their information: not this time, not again. It has worked before but not this time.
Am in no way minimizing the fact that Anglophones have to sit and also have a frank talk and listen to each other. That notwithstanding, what is at stake is something that we can not afford to look at schemes and other digressions

If Victor Mengot can not say whose opinion from the North West he is posting, he must himself then be the North Westerner of the said opinion. What a cowardly approach in the light of the seriousness of the situation.

VERY VERY IMPORTANT: THE HIDDEN AGENDA. We all acclaimed the common law lawyers and anglophone teachers for the battle to right the wrongs in the marginalisation of anglophones. However, i am beginnibg to get worried when i hear some northwesterners address the southwesterners as " too slow", "weak people", etc. Why should we the people from the north west region with a culture quite at variance with that of the south westerners think that they must behave like us. Why are we from the north west having such a domineering attitude? We have now turned the fight for anglophone lawyers and teachers to a demand for secesion. The people from the south west, following the communique from the chiefs conference are for a ten federated states according to the 1996 constitution. With our domineering attitude and our overwhelming majority we are seemingly looking for a way to rule over the south westerners as the francophones have ruled over us. I as a north westerner see this as super greed and wickedness. We have seen that all the prominent trade union leaders are from the north west. This is not a coincidence. It is simply because we want to always dorminate the south westerners in every aspect of the word. Why did they abandon the talks? It was because they realised in total consternation that it was a purely north west affair. And in pretencee they claimed they cannot continue with the talks if their south west brothers are not there. SHAME! SHAME!
