Re: [MTC Global] Are we passionate about our work?

Coming to the field of education and the teaching industry in India, passion for teaching and research is something that I'm still yet to see. I have seen teachers using students for their own benefit, seen the way how teachers go to the extent of insulting and being rude to students for the sake of research, seen politics among teachers and students as well.

Where is passion here? Every organisation talks of team work, talks of knowledge sharing, talks of every possible thing under the sun ... admist all this, the passion for teaching and research is killed by the way politics happen in organisation.

Knowledge sharing is a concept that's been used by many organisations but does it really happen ? I have seen faculty who don't even take pains to make their presentations and they either use students for it or they copy from many websites as it's all available on the internet.

If a faculty takes pains for the student, it is very visible. But at what cost ? The faculty has to face so many other headaches and hurdles if they think for the student community.

I have faced many such cases where other colleagues go and create issues when students spends time with me and different interpretations are being made when actually subject discussions are taking place. And when such issues go to the top management they even believe such people .And faculty who do this don't have any feeling and it's because such people exists that education industry in India has a long way to go.  Of course I never feel bad for all this because I have grown as a faculty .. I say thanks to all those who have hurt me and who have done bad to me because as faculty I have grown to understand what's right and what's wrong.

Where is passion here ? It's called POLITICS management more than knowledge being shared.

Coming to the field of research. Research is a term used in every university of higher education throughout the world. Coming to India, does research really happen or is it cut copy and paste? Do students really do projects or they take from seniors make minor changes and submit ?  Why students do this? Because they know that no teacher tells them what they are doing is wrong even if it's a known fact. The how would employability increase ? This is student research.

Coming to faculty research papers. Every university gives emphasis on research. Is research done or is it cut copy paste? Every university states their faculty did so many number of papers ... here it's the number ... so where is the quality?
Faculty are so busy doing politics that they forget what they need to do.

Genuine students come to you with interest to do research and I have had those students who have approached everyone else and then come to me and they say ' others said they don't have time to help us' ...

Admist all this, my question is where is passion and knowledge sharing? Does politics and spying have so much importance ? Where is being student friendly gone!?

All that people are worried is about how to put down another.

Faculty say at the end of the day that you do so much and students  are ungrateful. I fail to agree with this statement because a genuine true person never goes unmentioned or unnoticed. Maybe the management may put the concerned faculty down but students will always remain loyal to the teacher when they know that the teacher is genuine.

Passion is something , an energy that is felt by the students when a faculty teaches . And this is something which I fee is missing along a majority of faculty who teach because they are so busy in misinterpreting everything that somewhere the passion is lost.

When I say misinterpret , a student love and gratitude is misinterpreted , a student coming to you is taken wrong and every act of a student taken wrong makes the passion die down somewhere.

Warm Regards

Dear All,
As per Deloitte report, the secret to long-term, consistent success for business is to have passionate workers who are consistently working toward big goals and thinking big.
  • "Passionate workers are committed to continually achieving higher levels of performance.
  • In today's rapidly changing business environment, companies need passionate workers because such workers can drive extreme and sustained performance improvement—more than the one-time performance 'bump' that follows a bonus or the implementation of a worker engagement initiative.
  • These workers have both personal resilience and an orientation toward learning and improvement that helps organizations develop the resilience needed to withstand and grow stronger from continuous market challenges and disruptions."

passion at work is more consistent than engagement graphic comparison

The Deloitte report offers some tips on what to do and describes three attributes to help employees develop:

  1. Connecting

Workers who are passionate about what they do are always looking to connect with others to help them improve and solve problems. Deloitte recommends that you help employees connect with other people at their company and network with people outside the workplace.

  2. Questing

Workers with the questing attribute will always be looking for innovative ways to improve what they do. They're constantly testing and experimenting with new ideas. Deloitte encourages you to allow employees to work on side projects, or even better, let them choose which projects they work on at work.

  3. Commitment to domain

Passionate workers have a commitment to the domain they're in and are deeply committed to the work they do. A simple example of this is when a falsely accused criminal becomes a lawyer who fights wrongful convictions. That experience leads them to be more passionate about their work than someone who hasn't had that experience.
