Davendraji,

To be more clear on the issue, please buy "Gratuity Act Booklet" and read it thoroughly and you will be more aware about your status. Lord Krishna says: guide in such a way as the guidance seeker may become the guide himself.   In my opinion, its cost should not be more than Rs. 200/- .

I appreciate the responses by our learned Prof A Jagan Mohan Ready and Dr. P.H.Waghodekar. I respect them from the core of my heart. Their views have solved many of mine and mine friends' personality problems.

Gratuity is a (legal) right of the employee  subject to certain conditions without regards whether s/he is temporary, deemed to confirmed, confirmed, regularized or contractual/ad-hoc.

The rules for gratuity payment are set by the management or affiliating university or the State. Normally any full time employee who has put in minimum 5 years continuous service in an organization is eligible for gratuity payment while leaving his/her job at the rate of 15 days (half month)  per year service  and the final payment is worked out normally on the basis of the last full pay drawn.

Dear All,

I am having a question regarding Gratuity Norms for Academicians.

I am Working for a private organisation for the last 8 years out of which I was on contract basis for first 6 years and afterwards I have got permanent employee status since last 2 years. Am I eligible for gratuity or not?
 Also what about the contractual employees working for more than 5 years?
