Re: [MTC Global] [Weekend Big Discussion-I] Do you think 'Digitalisation' is the solution for faculty shortage?

Dear All,
Digital competence should be an important criteria while filling the vacancies and digitalization shall ensure that institutional resources are digitized (like Master-Classes, Event Video etc) and linked to website for authorized access to students.

Why not to fill vacancies?? If MOOC is the solution, why there is need of existing base too.

Technology alone is never decisive. We have to understand this.

Dear All,
Thank you so much for the warning; for educational institutions, here is an interesting viewpoint:

Embrace shadow IT

For all the risks shadow IT presents, it also carries the potential for amazing rewards. New applications can revolutionize business processes and allow employees to work smarter and more efficiently. If companies completely restrict an employee's ability to "go off the grid" they could compromise the enterprise-wide potential for meaningful innovation.

Furthermore, younger workers are looking for companies that give them space to grow and work as they see fit. Restricting application and device usage could lead valuable talent away from your company. Instead, I believe companies need to strike a careful balance between management and flexibility.

Educate employees to reduce risks and maximize benefits

Educational Institutions can successfully control shadow IT with the right employee education and tools. Today, many workers do not equate using certain applications or devices with extreme consequences. A team may not have thought ahead to what happens when a shadow IT application fails in the middle of a project. IT may not be ready with the answers when employees present major issues with unsupported tools.

In conjunction with education, institutions may want to impose data guidelines rather than application restrictions. Instead of telling an employee he or she can only use one system for work, an employer may outline what type of data is okay to work on in unsupported applications and which data should remain secure. Information usage guidelines can help a company develop enforceable boundaries.

Cheers,

Dear All,
I take this opportunity to request MTC_G to look in to the possibility of surveying MBA institutions for assessing, guiding and certifying them regarding their Digitalization Index.

  • Digitalization Index represents a measure to evaluate the digital maturity of an organization, resulting from the characteristics of individual evaluation criteria.
  • The objective is to identify optimization potentials and to analyze developments over time through iterative surveys.
  • By using a holistic survey with items in all relevant dimensions of digitalization to be analyzed, companies get ideas for optimizations already during the survey.
  • Furthermore individual analyses can be performed e. g. for bench-marking purposes.
  • The interpretation of the results obtained by the survey can be conducted individually, meeting organizational or industry-specific needs.

Warm regards,

Under Indian academic environment  where we hardly  bother about process management, performance management, academic audit or accountability, digitization if not seriously monitored, the remedy will be worse than the disease. No doubt digitization has its own inherent advantages like transparency, real-time action, learning anywhere, any time by any one, affordable education, etc.

The present rising trend is: teachers/students  get ready made material, no serious efforts are put in for Seminar, Dissertation, Thesis, article presentation, class room preparation or conduct of practical, outsourcing rising, etc. Plagiarism is rising, click and short-cut culture prospering.

If we are aware of these pitfalls, digitization is the most preferable way for education.
