Re: [MTC Global] [Weekend Big Discussion-I] Do you think 'Digitalisation' is the solution for faculty shortage?

Dear All,

"The present rising trend is: teachers/students  get ready made material, no serious efforts are put in for Seminar, Dissertation, Thesis, article presentation, class room preparation or conduct of practical, outsourcing rising, etc. Plagiarism is rising, click and short-cut culture prospering.

  1. "Teachers/students  get ready made material" - No harm as long as acknowledged properly. However both need to contribute originally to the content.
  2. "No serious efforts are put in for Seminar, Dissertation, Thesis, article presentation, class room preparation or conduct of practical, outsourcing rising, etc" - Because we (teachers) are responsible. If we contribute originally and guide students professionally, only then changes can be brought. We need to set an example for the students to emulate us.
  3. "Plagiarism is rising, click and short-cut culture prospering." - We should not plagiarise and help the learners to understand, identify and avoid plagiarism.
Technology is mute. Its we who operate it are responsible for use, misuse or disuse. Let us help ourselves in augmenting our ICT skills in providing professional services to the learners.

This is out of my personal experience and not to undermine anyone.

Under Indian academic environment  where we hardly  bother about process management, performance management, academic audit or accountability, digitization if not seriously monitored, the remedy will be worse than the disease. No doubt digitization has its own inherent advantages like transparency, real-time action, learning anywhere, any time by any one, affordable education, etc.

If we are aware of these pitfalls, digitization is the most preferable way for education.
