Re: [MTC Global] AP govt recruits B-school (ISB-Hyd) grads as aides to collectors

In my view the exercise could be termed noble if the privilege of selection is not just restricted to ISB-Hyderabad but also offers equal opportunity to other B-Schools in A.P. I am reminded of my visit to Alcatel-Lucent during my tenure in SIMS, Ghaziabad. I contacted the HR head from the gate requesting for an audience for presentation. The HR Head, though polite told me that it was the company's policy only to do campus hiring from select B-Schools. I told him that while you look for bright stars in elite B-Schools, you may miss out on a promising star in the neighboring B-School. It brought out a small laughter from the HR Head as a response and he told me that even he felt that talent is not restricted to one particular B-school and though the company policy may look like being biased and unjust to others, the policy makers thought and insight cannot be questioned. Similar case I came across while canvassing for Internship with ITC Group who already have narrowed down the campuses from whom they would be hiring interns and the same is listed in their website too.
In such cases when a selection is made and choice clearly communicated for hiring, there is a danger of accusation/bias which can be leveled against the Government's decision. Why the special favor to ISB?

This is a very visionary move  duly taken  up by the State Govt. of AP . In fact,  AP has always  remained  on forefront in India since independence  mainly because of such visionary Govt. and public. Why Govt. of AP has come out with such a move? Because of:
  1. Quality (or brand) of the ISB, Hyderabad.
  2. Identifying MBA in Fin. Tech as the area of concern..
  3. The role is specified as Executive Assistant to District Collector helping him in such areas  as planning, strategic planning, IT, etc..
ISB thus has become a brand name, credit goes to faculty and Vision and Mission of the Institute, a suit fo follow.

Quality leads, affiliation-recognition doesn't matter much as the following news follow even for the Government appointment

IN A first, several graduates of Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, will join as executive assistants to district collectors in Andhra Pradesh, with the state government making offers to 21 students of the institution this year.

The others will join in strategy and planning areas of various departments of the state government — information technology, AP brand management, Fin-Tech (financial technology), Textiles, Tourism, and Infrastructure, among others.

This is the second year that the government of the bifurcated state has made offers to ISB students; last year, the government had made offers to 11 ISB postgraduate students. They were chosen as 'Chief Minister's Fellows' to support the state on strategic initiatives and implementation of policies, including improving quality of education and child nutrition, creating sustainable livelihood and mitigate poverty, and reducing maternal mortality.

"Fin-Tech is the fastest growing sector, and AP is keen on promoting it. We need people with excellent leadership and strategy skills, so this year we offered roles to students of ISB,'' an official said.

The government made the job offers through the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB).

The need for executive assistants to district collectors was felt as districts such as Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Krishna and Chittoor are developing rapidly after the state's bifurcation, and collectors need aides to vet business proposals or prepare briefs for key meetings, among others, officials said.
