[MTC Global] MHRD to create special schools for minorities

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is planning to create separate schools for minorities and tribals on the lines of Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas. These schools will be run by the Central government on KV model and will be following NCERT syllabus like all other government schools. The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been asked to work on a curriculum for these schools. The MHRD has constituted a panel of secretaries from Ministry of Minority Affairs and Tribal Affairs, who will deal with the technicalities of setting up these schools.

A panel on education for minorities had submitted a report to the Ministry of Minority Affairs suggesting the need to revamp education for children belonging to the minority community.Usually in KVs and NVs, weightage is given to wards of government employees, but these schools will mainly cater to children from minority communities, without any reservation for government employees' children. The panel had also suggested that five higher education institutes to be developed for education in specialized sectors like science and technology, health architecture, climate change and others.
