Re: Tassang Reaction to Dr. Munzu

Comrade Wilfred Tassang,

Your observations our not far from the truth except that you mixed up the Bamenda Proclamation with the Buea Declaration. You also missed out on one important detail, viz: Dr. Simon Munzu and Dr. Carlson Anyangwe were late for come to Bamenda for AAC II because, according to them, they were trying to convince General Semengue and the powers that be that they were not coming to Bamenda to declare Southern Cameroons independence. But the forces of occupation disrupted the venue of the Conference at the Mankon Cathedral Hall all the same. Take note also that Dr. Carlson Anyangwe, the SCNC- SG, went missing after the peaceful march from the Cathedral along Commercial Avenue to Liberty Square, while the rest of the delegates were decoyed to Hon. Niba's Estate in Bafut for  the entire duration of the working session of AAC II .  It was  Dr. Simon Munzu and my humble self who put finishing touches to the Bamenda Proclamation at the top floor offices of City Chemist late that night.

Now, fast forward to the SCNC Delegation in New York and ask yourself why Dr. Carlson Anyangwe, the SCNC scribe, was not in that delegation. And then read the following excerpt from my Book , 'THE SCNC SAGA Volume Two', still in print, to buttress your indignation:

"The apparent solidarity of the LDA leadership in the delegation, made up of Mola Njoh Litumbe, Barrister Sam Ekontang Elad, Dr. Simon Munzu, Ambassador Henry Fossung,  to keep Professor Ndiva Kofele-Kale out of the SCNC delegation to the UN was severely tested in New York on the evening of 31 May 1995. On the second day,                  31 May 1995, after a very heart-warming and encouraging audience with the Nigerian Ambassador/ Permanent Representative to the United Nations, His Excellency Professor Ibrahim A. Gambari, at his high rise Second Avenue Office at the very impressive Nigeria House, we retired to Dr. Ivo Richard Fung's residence. Dr. Fung, then the Acting Director, UN Regional Center for Peace and Disarmament in Africa, is one of our own compatriots at the UN, who had invited the delegation to dinner at his home, and undiplomatically tried to talk the delegation out of the "Zero Option" of total independence for the Southern Cameroons. This sparked off such a vitriolic quarrel among the LDA members, with Dr. Munzu questioning even the raison d'etre of the Mission to the UN Headquarters by the delegation, and wasting much needed resources to fund the trip to the UN Headquarters when the resources could have been put to better use sensitizing the grassroots - a situation that actually marred the dinner.

xvi) It did not come as a surprise that the next day, 1 June 1995, the delegation arrived at the UN Headquarters                       30 minutes late for the appointment with the UN Secretary-General, Dr. Boutros  Boutros Ghali, because of logistics failures in New Jersey by SCAC-NA, the organisers of the US lap of the mission. Of course the busy UN Secretary-General had gone off to attend to the minute-by-minute crisis involving UN peace-keepers who had been taken hostage in Bosnia. It took a while before Mr. Felix G.N. Mosha, the then Director of the Department of Political Affairs at the UN from Zanzibar, came to our rescue and invited the delegation to the Conference room for a chat. In the mean time, Pa Muna was fuming: "Who is responsible for this?", and he cursed. Dr. Munzu was gleeful that the mission had flopped, justifying his charge the previous night of wasting funds for the mission.                         Dr. Richard Fung must have been gleeful too; because two and a half hours later a call came in from Yaounde reporting that the mission had failed.

xvii) Hold on now! Not quite! While the delegation was briefing the Zanzibari UN official on our mission to the UN Headquarters, the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs at the United Nations, Mr. Lansana Kouyate of Guinea- Conakry, made an entrance into the hall apologising profusely for keeping us waiting. He was accompanied by the Acting Director of the Africa Division and by the Legal Officer in the Office of the Legal Counsel. He told us, in impeccable English, that he had been delegated by the Secretary-General who was unavoidably taken up with the Bosnia crisis to receive us. He promised to faithfully transmit to the Secretary-General whatever requests we had for his attention. And, turning to the staff who had accompanied him, he said: "Gentlemen, we have to forego our lunch for 30 minutes and attend to this delegation from Cameroon". Instead of 30 minutes, the meeting lasted two and a half hours, and everybody in the delegation, beginning with chairman Elad, made a brilliant contribution.

The SCNC delegation succinctly stated the case of the peoples of the Southern Cameroons; requested the Secretary-General to bring the matter to the attention of the Security Council pursuant to Article 99 of the Charter of the United Nations, and urged the General Assembly of the United Nations to resolve:

a)       That the United Nations Trusteeship over the territory of the Southern Cameroons had  been wrongfully "terminated" in 1961 in violation of Article 76.b of the Charter of the United Nations;

b)       That consequently, the Southern Cameroons has never ceased to be a Trust Territory of the United Nations;

c)     That the United Nations' trust over the territory of the Southern Cameroons should be terminated forthwith in conformity with the provisions of the said Article 76, para. b; and

d)  That upon such termination, the emerging independent state of the Southern Cameroons shall be  free to determine whether it wishes to enter into any union with a neighbouring state, and if so, under what form and with which state.

Summarising the discussions, the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs for Africa had this to say: "Gentlemen, from what I have been able to gather from our discussions, you want full independence for the Southern Cameroons. I will faithfully transmit this position to the Secretary-General". Mr Kouyate was later to become the first democratically elected Prime Minister of the Guinea-Conakry after a stint as Secretary-General of the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS). Unfortunately he was overthrown in a bloodless coup d'etat in December 2008.

After the meeting, the delegation went downstairs to the grounds of the UN Secretariat Building and posed for photographs. A call came through from Yaounde apparently rejoicing that the mission to the UN had failed. Your guess is as good as mine: who must have been monitoring and keeping up a running commentary with Yaounde about the happenings at the UN that morning? CAM sources later informed us that a certain NGENWIE Debby NJAH was an agent of la Republique du Cameroun at the UN planted there to monitor SCNC correspondences coming into the UN. After the photographs, the delegation returned to New Jersey and left for Washington DC in very high spirits".

Again fast foreward  Back home:

"The following day, at a stock-taking Council meeting at Chairman Elad's house, the Liberal Democratic Alliance (LDA) political party members of the delegation raised hell: they alleged that they had been ambushed with the London Communique, a document ALL members of the  delegation, with the exception of Ambassador Martin Ekwoge Epie who had travelled to Canada from Washington DC to visit the daughter and Justice A.N.T. Mbu who stayed behind in the USA to continue his lecture tour, had diligently  worked at for nearly three days at the Command Center in London, followed by its ceremonial signings under the UN Flag without complaint. How do you like that! They were equally bitter about the use of the UN Flag.

Actually, the idea of the UN Flag was an intuitive instinct  of mine. I bought a couple of UN  flags from the UN shop in the UN Building in New York and placed an order for three more which were later brought home to me by my kinsman, Dr. Denis Kini, alias, BO MULOIN, who revealed the secret to  Mr. Francis Isidor Wainchom Nkwain, a Cameroon Peoples' Democratic Movement (CPDM) ruling political party  diehard and stalwart. Pa Foncha, Pa Muna and Dr. Munzu grumbled loudly about the use of the UN Flag but could not resist the effect the flag had on the  population during the tour of the territory. At the time even our lawyers in the SCNC leadership could not interpret the fact that the failure to implement UN Resolution 1608 (XV), paragraph 5, of 21 April 1961, meant that the Southern Cameroons remained a United Nations Territory. We became aware of this fact only in 2003, ten full years after AAC I, thanks to diligent research and insights into the workings of the UN System carried out by our compatriot and philosopher, Professor Martin CHIA ATEH, from St Thomas Aquinas' Major Seminary in Bambui, Mezam Division, Bamenda Province".

Sometime later, while on home leave from his UN post in Kigali, Rwanda, in answer to a reporter's question,                     Dr. Munzu had complained loudly that the SCNC had been taken over by extremists (meaning us in the Southern Cameroons Restoration Movement –SCARM- fomerly the Cameroon Anglophone Movement –CAM – our pioneer Liberation Movement  and watchdog).

Dear Dr Munzu,

Do You Hate Us this Much?

My dear father, and brother, it is with a heavy heart that  I have to address you through the public domain. The purpose is not to humiliate you, but to make sure I have 8million Southern Cameroonians to bear me witness that I did get to you. It seems to me that what the unschooled perceive these days, the learned, I mean, PhDs can't understand. Or that wisdom has departed from the old.

Before I get into the crux of the matter, let me recall one of my closing tirades on January 13  2017, at about mid night while we wrapped up bitterness in the Education Adhoc Committee. In righteous anger, I told your PhD colleagues and the Professors present, that I, ( and this should apply to all ) had no regard whatsoever for PhD holders and Professors who can not stand the truth nor call a spade by its name. The PhDs present were, Professor Talla Kashim, Fame Ndongo, Nalova Lyonga, Teresa Akenji, Paul Ghogomo, Callistus Fuh Gentry etc. And today, I am sad to have to count you among the dishonoured.

My dear Dr Munzu, when I went to school, I learned very early in my quest that knowledge was about the truth, and that the truth is the foundation of all wisdom. In my unending quest to know my Maker, I learned as early as Sunday School that the Creator is Omniscient. That He is the source of all knowledge. I also learned of Jesus His Son, that He is the Way, the Truth and the Light. I have enough testimonies in life to believe that all knowledge without the fear of God is the cause of all the intellectual stuntedness that we have around. No doubt we would rather use our knowledge in a sophisticated manner, in a way to pull down our communities so that we and ours alone may see the light of day. The common man has named it most appropriately; the Pull Him Down syndrome.

I am presently deprived of my archives, and so can't make very apt references to dates of events. However, I know I was in teacher training when both the AAC and AAC II took place. I can also remember reading from the papers how you, Dr Simon Munzu wept uncontrollably while reading to our people the contents of the Bamenda Declaration. Should I belabour the point by mentioning here why you wept? Well, just in case you have forgotten, the onus was on you to inform Yaoundé that our people would resort to independence restoration after a reasonable time, should government persist in the ostrich game.

Do you remember Sir, that shortly after the SCNC opted for restoration, you found time to come home just to discredit and denounce the move? According to you, restoration of the statehood of the Southern Cameroons was never considered as an option by the SCNC. So what was it that made you cry when reading the Bamenda declaration? The possibility of never seeing your masters again? Were you violating a sealed agreement with the enemy, and cried so that they may see that you had been forced to read it? Whatever.

My dear "learned" Dr Munzu, it would appear that you long reneged on your belief. Why? Hunger? Am sorry for being petty. But hunger is the one most important factor for success in most revolutions, or failure of the same. Welcome back from your cosy UN job. I hear LRC enabled you secure that and now is pay back time. OK?  One good turn deserves another, you know. So you want to use Southern Cameroons to pay back Paul Biya's good turn? For how long did it last? Paul Biya's good turn, I mean?

Why is it not strange to me that you are the one to do all these dirty work? You've been down this road before.
Remember you were the one Etoudi used to mobilise Southern Cameroonians to welcome Pharaoh Biya in Washington DC, at the Obama-African Heads of State Summit. I hear you did a good job convincing even the elect.

A nos moutons docteur. Excuse me Sir. Sometimes I suffer these language swings. But I know that you are a better pupil of the oppressor's language. As I was saying, am not surprised at this present treacherous mood.
Each time I have refused to be patronised by the enemy, it was because I knew that payback time would come. In your case though, are you paying back or looking for fresh favours?

About the truth Sir; what is your leitmotif? The Bamenda Declaration mentioned "a reasonable time". You read that declaration. My question to you Sir; how much time did you understand would be "a reasonable time"? Apparently, 1961 to 2017 is not reasonable time enough by your estimation. I mean that fifty six years are not long enough for your people to say enough is enough. Should God have waited until Simon Munzu is home to his Maker before launching this revolution?

Can Dr Simon Peter, sorry, Munzu, with all his learning, state for a fact, that this failed union can work. What is it that makes the learned university/UN expert believe that our people should suffer yet another day in bondage. Am sure that my brother has not spared any of the literature spewed on the columns to justify our case. Or are you saying Sir, that we have no case? Are you affirming that our case was sold and sealed in 1961 and therefore unsalvageable? Or is this just so your remaining days on earth may be spent in quiet comfort while your people increase in their pain?

Why did you ever go to school Sir, if not so that knowledge acquired could be used at the service of your people in times like these? As " Anglicans "' (and I hear you had the privilege to be brought up on their shores), you know that we are a tolerant people. You also know that we get involved in very passionate and sometimes violent debates on the floor of the House. Not having that privilege to confront you face to face, I thought I should resort to this medium so that my message gets to you as most passionately and most violently as possible. Unfortunately, the civility of our fathers wouldn't allow me to be as brutal as I wanted to sound. That notwithstanding, note that I have tried, with reservation, to pour out my bile to you.
You are forgiven your trespasses against our people and the struggle because the Lord commands that we do. Note however, that we are equally commanded to resist the devil. It therefore is not Simon Munzu we resist but the spirit of the oppressor that is manipulating you that we must resist. If in the process you get lumped up with Pharaoh, then so be it. Remember, we are in a revolution and that in revolutions, there are no bystanders, no middle ground. Who is not for us is against us.

Dialogue is a good thing and we have never refused to dialogue. But who has mandated you to initiate dialogue with the enemy? Is it the UN? I ask this because Yaoundé has still not decriminalised discussions on self determination. In your advocacy, I've not heard you demand for the unconditional release of all abductees and for any form of "amnesty" for those in exile, as a condition for dialogue. So who is Yaoundé going to dialogue with? You? Or their appointed members of Parliament/Senators who have never been able to say a word for their people? Who do you want Yaoundé to dialogue with my brother? Or can you claim to be unaware of the fact that we are where we are today because Yaoundé rejected dialogue? What point are you trying to prove? And to who?

Anyway, enjoy your sponsored trips while the struggle continues. But when you return, tell your masters that we are ready and have always been ready for dialogue. However, such a dialogue, for it to have meaning, must be tripartite. The UN must preside over any dialogue between our people and Yaoundé. Those to represent and speak for our people shall be the same ones God used to start this revolution. I mean those in jail and exile.
Tell them that tomorrow shall be better if they stop fighting our God.
If they don't, well, God's wrath shall visit them soon. And like the Good Book says, "for there is no longer any sacrifice that will take away sins if we purposely go on sinning after the truth has been made known to us. Instead, all that is left is to wait in fear for the coming judgement...which will destroy those who oppose God!" Heb. 10:26-27.
As for your master Paul Biya, he said, "apres moi, le deluge" or did he say "chaos"? It now is evident that the "deluge" he referred to will meet him here on earth and not "apres". It's not too late for repentance though. Tell him.

And for you....Do you really hate us this much?

Ferociously yours
Pa TASSANG Wilfred
