Sir, I believe the real worth of a teacher is when students and people absorb their
teachings and apply it to their own lives. The great teachers have influenced our lives
and enriched them.
Some great teachers who left their mark: Socrates, Aristotle and Plato, Gautam Buddha,
Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda,
On the other side were great teachers but whose teachings fell on deaf years.
Vidura of the Mahabharata, Machiavelli of Italy and Chanakya. They are being rediscovered
once again.
A great teacher does not blow his own trumpet but the pupil recognizes the greatness and
follows the precepts and becomes great in turn.
A nation that ill treats its teachers is doomed to ignorance and mediocrity.
Among many nations, India has been fortunate to have great teachers such Dr
Radhakrishnan, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, C Rajagopalachary, and more recently, Dr APJ
Abdul Kalaam. Yet we find ourselves forgetting their teachings and remembering them in
name only. This is tragic.
Best regards,
K.Paranjpe

>Thanks Indeed to Goel Sir for the motivational sharing and perhaps this is the reason
why Germany is ahead and in our country...the earlier golden period of the Kings was the
only era where teachers were revered. Also thanks to Waghodekar Sir as we often have many

Thanks Professor Goelji for sharing the invaluable piece of advise. My take is:
No one can surpass the quality/traits of one's teacher.
Teacher is one who transforms a common man into an extraordinary (ideal) one.In ancient
India the status of a teacher was the highest in the society, even higher than the king,
the king used to leave his throne to welcome his teacher.Mind well in hierarchy of needs
one's wages are at lower level than one's (social) status. The institutes that hire the
(world class quality) teachers prove to be the world class institutes. It is illusion to
assume that quality of a teacher is directly proportional to his wages for teaching is
not a commercial activity but human building noble one.
Ponder over the concept: Laxmi and Sarswati cannot stay together.
