Re: [MTC Global] Student feedback-Yard stick of faculty performance?

Dear Sirs,

.....I am a kind of exceptional person by qualifications and by career.....I am a quadruple doctorate in Philosophy, Education, Psychology and Management respectively.... with around 25 publications......I am a gold medalist at p g level and I was conferred JRF/SRF NET.....Basically I am a telecom officer.....while on leave I pursued some courses on regular basis and of course others  as a private/external candidate......I tried to join into some educational institution but for the low pay offered, I could n't join...... I delivered a couple of  lectures in some of the reputed private management/engineering colleges....

.... I had teaching experience in our training centres as faculty .... there also this kind of trainee/student feedback is there....

....taking student feedback for self-correction /rectification of lapses on the part of faculty is ok.....but giving excessive emphasis upon so-called student feedback is not only ridiculous, irrational and unscientific as well....

.....Recently some of the top level director /officer of a reputed a.p. university told that only 25%  of the students are sincerely puting up 75% attendance...25% are putting up 75% by successful manipulation..... another 25% are by successful threatening the management and the remaining 25% are poor fellows without any such talent and getting denial from writing the exams......

.....now, my dear friends, you are all true academicians and will become better judges about the so-called teacher evaluation by students.....

....first, teach the students regular attending to class-room lectures.... then teach them about discipline and value orientation towards teachers, elders, management and society at large.....then, start emphasizing upon teacher valuation.....

..... best wishes to all the true faculty...

Dear All,

I personally don't feel that student's feedback is a major yardstick as many a time it is not correct. I am a victim to such situation. Once I had fallen out with my principal on certain issues and he instructed the coordinators of some departments to correct negative feedback from students about me, so that he could place it before the management and prove his point. But some of my colleagues and students objected to it for which they were harassed in many ways. Later I had a long battle to fight with truth and sincerity as the two pillars.

Moreover, students generally don't like to lead a discipline life and are very good manipulators. The moment they know that the teachers appraisal is in their hands, they start capitalising on it.So many teachers give more attention on friendly attitude than on course delivery.

I may be wrong but still, I feel students have no right to judge the teachers capability.

Dear All,

Traditionally student feedback and exam results been considered major yardsticks of the performance and effectiveness of faculty members by the leadership of various colleges/institutes/organizations. However, lately this issue is being debated widely because of the loopholes and errors in the student feedback process. It's observed that in several cases, student's give faulty feedback owing to strictness/discipline being imposed by faculty etc. The students may even wrongly favor a faculty for being friendly and lenient .In some cases the student undergo undue influence to negatively/positively incline towards a faculty etc. Apart from this, even management may use this as a tool to support their decisions in select cases,  Solicit your views, experiences and opinions on the same.
