I read this story; it is neither interesting nor a narrative of sociological landscape of India. It is on entitlements based on caste and class. I am amazed by the way in which we describe ourselves. Are we really ants? In the given story I presume ants mean the middle class. Do we really work so hard and save so that the grasshoppers just dance and then claim the true entitlements of the arts? I think we are far from truth. The story is most insensitive towards poorer sections of the society who are denied opportunities just because they are born in a caste or class.
If anyone thinks that the activists and communist party works for singing grasshoppers, it is really sad. Probably Lalu may be an exception for working for himself.

From the research I quote I"n our experiment, junior high school boys drawn from either the top of the caste hierarchy (the ―General Castes) or bottom (the Dalits) solve mazes under incentives under one of three conditions.1 In the first condition, caste identity, which is not visible from physical markings, is not made public in a session of three high-caste and three low-caste boys; we call this condition ―Caste Not Revealed.‖ In the second condition, caste identity is made public in a session consisting of three high-caste and three low-caste boys; we call this condition ―Revealed Mixed.‖ The last condition is the same as the second except that a session consists of only high-caste boys or only low-caste boys; we call this condition ―Revealed Segregated.‖ Revealed Segregated is a stronger prime to the caste system than Revealed Mixed because participants would likely have been aware that the composition of their session reflected deliberate segregation by caste status. This is so because participants were brought to the experiment site in groups with an equal number of high-caste and low-caste boys. Moreover, given their share in the population of enrolled schoolchildren, the probability that segregation of high- and low-caste students could result from a random draw of the local population of students is very small (less than (0.2)6 = 0.00006). As discussed above, enforced segregation of low-caste from high caste individuals is a recognizable expression of high-caste dominance.
I think the following research report on board compositions in India is another example of stratification of Indian business sociological landscape from Economic and Political Weekly.
In fact is if appropriate ecosystem is designed for the students everyone will perform; Ants will work and dance and grasshoppers dance and work.
In reality both the ants and grasshoppers in India are suffering due to poor design of learning environment.
Here is an excellent article by Professor Karthik Muralidharan; PISA scores ranked India the lowest (73/74) . We may not agree with the finding, but let us think, what went wrong with our system of education.
I think we no more need to distinguish between ants and grasshoppers to know who is entitled for what; just work towards your countrymen and women and the world will reward you; none can take away you merit- Swami Vivekananda. I think we should not forget this is land of Mahatma, Buddha and Vivekananda who examined themselves and society most critically and created a philosophy unparalleled in the history of the world.

Thanks to the Almighty there is enough for everyone (may not be enough to the greedy) and hence lets all work together in widening the gainful employment opportunities to the youngsters so that they grow and our GDP also grows.

I belong to the landed class (ants category) and the grasshoppers lived in a segregated colony. 30 years back, they were poor, ugly and untouchable. They lived in huts and had a separate well for drinking water. Even in the church there was segregation. They could not sit next to us and pray.
Thanks to the reservation, they studied and are in many government jobs. The second generation children study engineering and medicine and a few of them are in the US too. They have built huge houses. They look prettier than our people. Their colony looks better than ours.
I do not find them any inferior to any of us. Given the opportunities everybody can come up in life.
My feeling is that we should get out of the shortage mentality. This country has enough and more for everybody. Let us create more opportunities.
