It is a circle jerk that very few colleges want to participate in. Texas A and M has guts and they have a damned good football team. At one time Texas high school dominated the nation in turning out college level football players. That is no more. The entire secondary school system of the State of Florida is a football camp. Georgia is becoming the same. Read about Region One 5 A (maybe 6A) in Georgia. It IS a football university at the high school level and my high school has the misfortune of playing in it. Just Lowndes County and Valdosta are enough to prove the point but then add Camden County and Moultrie. At one time the big high schools in Georgia in Atlanta beat on us like a drum. Lowndes fixed that. They recruit as does Camden County. Look across the nation and find a top college prospect playing ball in a military family and the Navy suddenly sends dad or mom to Kings Bay Submarine Base or if they are Air Force they find themselves on the way to Moody Field…a large fighter training base and a part of the coastal line of defense with four squadrons of F-16s and a few squadrons of F-15. And these kids want to come to Georgia and play in that region because it is like a constant recruitment film with recruiters from major colleges at every game.
We have four kids playing Division 1 college football this year. One will probably be a great quarterback at I think Purdue or Illinois. Three are my patients and are huge. Probably the best of the lot was taken out of football by his parents because he could not play ball and keep his high school grades up. He’s going to pharmacy school and is a tech at CVS…6’5” and about 265 of no fat. I’ve tried to talk his parents into letting me get him a South Georgia College scholarship if he doesn’t get a football one, which he would if he played…nope. They believe in education before football.
The SE has displaced Texas as Friday Night Lights and it is simply getting stronger. Texas still has the hold on quarterbacks because of your small school type smaller squat football and the drop back passing that goes with it and you produce some damned good ones because they have played at Georgia. Nope, no one want to get in that circle jerk you are speaking of.
