Assistant/Associate Professor

Department of Nutrition and Food Science

The Position: Full-time, academic year, ONE tenure-track position in either NUTRITION/DIETETICS or NUTRITION MANAGEMENT in the College of Natural Sciences beginning in Fall 2014.

California State University, Chico is seeking faculty who are competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. Position is contingent on funding. Minimum Qualifications for Either Position: Willingness/ability to perform research and scholarly activities; develop curriculum, teach undergraduate courses in a Commission on Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) - accredited undergraduate program and other department programs, teach general education courses: basic nutrition and/or nutrition and physical fitness; and participate in department as needed. Normal faculty duties include undergraduate and graduate advising and serving on campus committees, in addition to teaching duties; engage in research and seek external funding. Candidates are subject to a criminal records check.

Nutrition/Dietetics: Additional Minimum Qualifications An earned doctorate in Nutrition or related field; and Registered Dietitian (RD) or eligible to sit for the registration exam. ABD Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered, however, the doctorate must be complete prior to the end of the first semester. Preferred Qualifications: teaching experience; professional experience as a clinical dietitian; and clinical nutrition as area of scholarly research.

Responsibilities: The candidate will be expected to teach courses in the ACEND-accredited undergraduate program and graduate program, including, but not limited to: human nutrition, lifecycle nutrition, nutrition counseling and education, medical nutrition therapy, and graduate courses.

Nutrition Management : Additional Minimum Qualifications An earned Master's degree in Nutrition or related field; Registered Dietitian (RD) or eligible to sit for the registration exam; teaching experience; and professional management or supervision experience in a food program, healthcare or school foodservice setting. Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate in Nutrition or related field (required for advancement to Full Professor); and culinary experience desirable.

Responsibilities: The candidate will be expected to teach courses in the ACEND-accredited undergraduate program and graduate program, including, but not limited to: introduction to foodservice administration, foodservice procurement and management, foodservice equipment and production, and cultural food.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.

The Department: The Department of Nutrition and Food Science (http://www.csuchico.edu/nfsc ) in the College of Natural Sciences (http://www.csuchico.edu/nsci/index.shtml) includes seven full-time faculty, about 25 graduate students, and 250 undergraduate majors and offers programs leading to a bachelor's and master's degree. Its' faculty represent a wide range of interests. Department programs are enhanced by laboratories for courses and research in foods, food science, nutrition, and community nutrition. Campus support services, such as a library, distance education facilities, and technology learning and support, are easily accessible. The successful candidate will be provided with research space (if needed), start-up research funds, and release time in the first year of appointment to help in the establishment of a research program.
