Re: Re: [MTC Global] Adding contract teachers to regular ones improves outcomes: study

Dear Sir, The threads on the topic make interesting reading. Perhaps, the result
is not unexpected. We do not as yet know if the findings are applicable to all
courses and everywhere in the country. One reason for contract teachers to improve
effective learning is their dedication to the job at hand: teaching exclusively.
It is seen that tenured teachers are made to do a lot of jobs that are different
from teaching. It is not the fault of the tenured teachers if they are unable to
deliver appropriately in the class.
The point about exploitation of contractual teachers is true, but if there were an
egalitarian hiring system where the teachers could have their say in stating their
fees then the system would not be that bad. There are quite a few contractual
teachers who earn far more than the tenured teachers. To most, the system biases
against the contract teachers and this is amplified by various regulatory norms
imposed on the Institutions in the name of quality.

and the regular payees take these contract people as granted and divert all the
work to these people.

at the end this system only helps to know how best we can be corrupt.

Teachers on contract, who come to class more often than tenured teachers who are
sometimes paid five times more, improve learning outcomes, a new study of 200
schools in Andhra Pradesh has found. Contract teachers seem to be more committed.
Absenteeism was 18% among contract teachers, compared with 27% among the regular
teachers, the study noted.
