BIYA'S END OF YR SPEECH

 
                   In his speech, the President of the Republic asked
many times what the Cameroonian people want or what they lack. He acknowledged
the failures of the government as he mentioned unnecessary bureaucracy, inertia
and negligence as some of the reasons for the wide spread mediocrity. At a
certain point Biya went sober, almost bursting into tears for the beloved
fatherland. Cameroonians are supposed to help Biya in nation building in a bid
to move this country forward. Unfortunately, this is not the case asthe personal interest has taken precedence
over the national interest. This writer senses a spectre of defeat or a
sense of failure/disappointment from the Cameroonian people, in the President's
speech. It may not be entirely wrong to speculate that the president may throw
the towel any time soon. One thing plagues this writer:
What
is the way forward? How do we get out of this mess?
                        What do Cameroonians want, Biya asks?
ØGovernment
credits are not consumed. Biya wants to know why for more than 5 years no
region can produce a 50% realization of the investment budget. What do Cameroonians
want? When credits are not given people complain, when they are given, they are
not consumed. What do Cameroonians want?
 
ØIn
the fight against corruption, people accused Biya of being laxed. When the
government big fish were arrested, Inoni, Marafa, Mebara and Ondo Ndong, the
same Cameroonians started clamouring for their release. CONAC ANIF CONSUPE,
TCS, CHAMBRE DES CMPTES were created to effectively stamp out corruption in
this country, yet Cameroon still ranks first among African countries.      What do Cameroonians want?
ØCameroonians
asked for employment and  Biya employed 25 000 youths in one year not including
those employed for the Gendarmerie, BIR, Army, Police, something that has
hardly happened in any country in the world in one year. Yet the people
employed have abandoned office and are still receiving salaries. Some have even
fallen bush and their families are still receiving salaries. What do Cameroonians
want?
 
ØSchools
have been created all over the national territory. Every year schools are
created and buildings are erected yet our children do not want to go to school.
Our teachers have abandoned the class room and preferred to teach in private
schools yet they still receive government salaries. Universities and schools
for higher learning have been created all over the country.         What
do Cameroonians want?
 
ØCameroonians
asked for Anglo Saxon universities, Biya gave them. Yet our universities became
breeding grounds for terrorists, prostitutes, drug addicts, drop outs, cult
recruitments, intellectual menopause and sexually transmitted marks. Power
struggle and even out right assassinations. What do Cameroonians want?
 
ØCameroonians
asked for the GCE Board, the Office du BACC, SOWEDA, NOWEDA, IRAD etc and Biya
gave them. Instead of these institutions to be used to serve the Cameroonian
people, they were used to serve the personal interest as opposed to the
national interest. They became open ballet grounds for witch hunting, back biting,
murder, avarice etc.                                    What do Cameroonians
want?
 
ØCameroonians
say that the country is not developed. Biya has laid the foundation stone of
the Grands projets all over, Lom Pamgar, Mekin, Memve Ele, Deep Sea port Kribi,
Second Wouri bridge, Gas plant Logbaba, Dangote cement etc. what do Cameroonians
want?
 
 
ØBiya
is accused of not mentioning the Cinquantenaire in his end of year speech. This
ceremony held in Yaounde and in Bamenda successfully. Billions had been sent
for it to be prepared in the South West but big wigs have embezzled all the
money and the work is not complete. The Tole Road is an eye sore when it has
not even been used. Other buildings have not even been roofed. Arab contractors
have abandoned work because all the money has been stolen. Now it is the Genie
Militaire that is doing the work. It's a shame to all the south west elite who
are very weak, that such disgrace can happen in their region. It's the same
thing that happened with the Chantal Biya's Ecole des Champions in limbe. All the
money was stolen and on the eve of the inauguration the walls were white washed
overnight. Those who attended the occasion could not hide their shame. Even the
First lady frowned at what she saw, as opposed to the same school that was
built in Bafoussam. What a shame to the so called south west elite that they
can disgrace their region to such an extent. Much money was sent for the feast
to be prepared. A National Disgrace to the South west region.                     What do Cameroonians want?
 
ØReference
hospitals have been built here and there. Malaria treatment for infants and for
pregnant mothers is free of charge. The price for cesarean section for women
has been reduced to 50 000 FRS. Treatment for AIDS has been made free of charge.
What do Cameroonians want?
 
ØThe
Cameroon economy has registered a 4% growth rate in 2013. Bakassi oil is now
fully Cameroonian. MIRAP and other price control agencies are helping to ensure
that prices of basic goods are at an affordable level through the monthly sales
caravans. What do Cameroonians want?
 
ØCameroonians
asked for freedom of the press and it was granted. Every day journalists around
the country rain insults on Biya, instead of helping to build the nation. Private
radio, TV and newspaper stations spring up here and there. What do Cameroonians
want?
 
ØCameroonians
asked for Biometric elections and Biya gave them. Yet thousand of voters' cards
were abandoned in polling stations.                   What do Cameroonians want?
 
ØBiya
made identity cards to be issued free of charge for more than 3 months, yet many
Cameroonians still lack identity cards. Even those who did theirs have
abandoned them in police stations. Radio and TV announcements are made every day,
begging people to come and collect their cards. Hundreds of   ID
cards are abandoned in their numbers in money transfer agencies, in bus
stations and in schools and in markets everywhere. What do Cameroonians want?
 
ØCameroonians
asked for the SENATE and Biya gave them, what do Cameroonians want?
 
ØCameroonians
accused Biya of centralizing all powers in Yaoundé, Biya brought about decentralization,
giving mayors all the powers and money but what did we get? Corrupt mayors
imposing percentages on contractors and embezzling state funds. What do Cameroonians
want?
 
ØAll
ex workers of defunct state corporations who were being owed for over 20 years
are currently being paid in the regional treasuries.                          What do Cameroonians want?
 
ØCameroon
is an island of peace in the midst of CEMAC troubled waters, we have the BIR
and all other forces that ensure peace and stability and security in this
country. What do Cameroonians want?
 
ØEto'o
Fils resigned and Biya went on his knees and beg him to return to enable
Cameroon qualify for Brasil 2014. Thank god Cameroon qualified. ( remember that
football is the opium if the people, perhaps the only factor that ensures
national cohesion. Even the SCNC support La Republique when it comes to
football). What do Cameroonians want?
 
ØCameroonians
said Cameroon does not have any stadium. Stadia are being built in Bafoussam,
Limbe, Bamenda etc. what do Cameroonians want?
 
What then is the problem? Who is
not doing his job? Is Biya incompetent or are Cameroonians simply ungrateful? The
debate is open
