VMWare & App Packaging - Reston, VA:
Sr. Engineer with a thorough understanding of the setup, configuration, and management of an enterprise VMware VDI Horizon View, vCenter, vSphere, and ESXi v5.x and daily operational support of this infrastructure .
· The primary objective of this role will be to evaluate, configure, implement , and manage the Vm Ware Horizon View packaging and VDI image/builds. The candidate will evaluate the best method for packaging existing packages in MS SCCM and package applications to make them available in the VDI VM View infrastructure and will also build several images for differing needs.
· The engineer will also mentor and train existing System Admin staff, and provide upper-tier support to Institute users, provide documentation, operating procedures, and technical expertise to FM Project as appropriate. In addition, the engineer will be integral in determining new technologies to offer our clients and assisting in the creation of innovative solutions such as end-user application virtualization, and remote/virtual desktop presentation.
REQUIRED RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Setup, configure and deploy Thin app packages and App-V packages.
· Migrate/package existing natively installed applications for use in the VDI VMware environment.
· Leverage virtualization capabilities to further automate systems management, analysis, and performance monitoring.
· Gather end-user environment information to guide desktop and application virtualization efforts.
· Work with the Project Team to develop backup/DR strategy for virtual/data environment.
· Evaluate new information system products or services and suggests changes to existing products/services to better aide project parameters.
· Mentor, support and guide the systems administration staff in day-to-day virtual systems operations.
· Coordinate with customers and Change control board to make sure procedures and mandates are being followed appropriately
· Work closely with Project Team to develop: Systems manuals, SOPs, methodology and process wikis.
· Efficiently troubleshoot and problem solve all technical issues relevant to supporting FM IT/virtual infrastructure
· Assess and anticipate infrastructure and technology projects and work with Project Manager to recommend appropriate action and resources.
· Work with Project Team to propose hardware/software solutions to accomplish the FM business objectives.
· Design build and operational support on VDI hosts and VM's.
· Provide advanced technological guidance to team members as necessary.
· Ability to support a VDI environment of 100 to 5000 hosts.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
· Strong VMware core technology skills,
· At least 5 years of experience in virtual infrastructure packaging in the VDI View enterprise environment.
· Experience in the build, managing, monitoring, deploying, and troubleshooting virtualized server and desktop environments.
· Demonstrate knowledge and extensive experience with enterprise technical environments
· Experience in enterprise SAN/storage environments, Ethernet, Fibre-Channel, LUN configuration, and storage provisioning services.
· Knowledge of enterprise-class backup and disaster recovery environments.
· Knowledge of cloud technology and hybrid cloud implementation a plus.
· Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
· Education and Certifications:
· Bachelor of Science
· VCP5 certifications a plus.
