RE: [MTC Global] [Weekend Big Debate- I] Women can't have it all

A simple rule that applies to both the genders and reflects on one's performance is how happy or miserable you are when you leave the home in the morning and vice versa in the evening when you leave the office. A very interesting phenomena that I have observed is that percentage of working women has substantially increased over last 2 decades. As a result of this change – on one side number of divorces have increased on the other hand families have become richer, happier and have built strong bonds with every member finding himself/herself as an important member of the family.

Yes, I agree..it's just humbug. A good many CEOs, when they accidentally slips into transcendent al state (rare occasion) preach about work life balance to their employees. But practices are very often far from what they preach.

Certainly, smart work is less time consuming and spending time with family is most important. Employees of some reputed IT companies do not even take a call on the week ends. In abroad, Indians are known for their hard work and I recall in Mauritius, when our client's people left office at 4.30 pm, we continued till 7.30 pm. There is nothing wrong in it, because to achieve perfection in profession hard work is necessary and one should not crib about it.

I had worked for IT industry for 34 years and I was lucky to be associated with a manager who was the architect of Indian Railways reservation system and general insurance system of leading Indian companies. Both of us together spent hours, even late at night to ensure customer delight and there is no alternative to smart-hard work. I remember his words - the day you roll out a system, make sure of things at least a week ahead and be with the team without looking at the watch, to anticipate what might go wrong and work out solutions.

The Olympians of china and Japan slog for years with tears in their eyes and the only time they smile is when they stand on the victory stand.

Dear fellow professionals

Herewith my rather unconventional views on the subject of work-life balance: "Work Life Balance is Humbug".These thoughts are not gender specific, and extracted from my just released book 'Leadership, Fame and Self-actualization'.  I do intend posting soon, hopefully unbiased, gender specific views in an article 'Are women as good leaders as their male counter-parts?'

Shall be glad to get reactions from u all

I agree with dr artee.

Although I don't have kids of my own, but I worry when I do, what will I do. How will I keep a watch over them. Whom will I leave them with. What if the person is not of good moral character.

Then I contempilate ..ok I spend enough time in office..may be I will take a break ...pick something to do from home.

So much of brainstorming is when I don't have kids. I marvel women even in my workplace who manage both home and office.but they all say one thing. Its not possible without a cooperative partners.

So there must be a lot of cooperative partners.

In the organization I worked till 2012. They had maternity leaves for both men and women.

Thanks and regards
