Role: Network Server Support Specialist
Location -DURHAM, North Carolina
This role establishes and maintains network performance by building configurations and connections; troubleshooting network problems directly and/or indirectly through service delivery partner. The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for planning, configuring, monitoring, and maintaining the network infrastructure including wired and wireless network equipment and cable plant. Ensures all systems operate efficiently and optimally and is responsible for the planning of network/system upgrades to ensure ample capacity to support systems and services for ongoing support and projects. The candidate for this position should exhibit proficiency in managing and maintaining all items listed below and have experience in a complex medium sized network environment (>1000 ports) in a highly regulated financial services business.
Key Accountabilities:
Establishes networking environment by designing system configuration; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards
Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with network architects on network optimization
Secures network system by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access
Accomplishes information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed
Reporting network operational status by gathering, prioritizing information; participating in large projects, and managing smaller projects
Willingness to learn new technologies and creativity to present alternative solutions to enhance existing services
Required Qualifications:
Six (6) or more years of experience with installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of WAN routing (including load balancers) and LAN switching equipment from Cisco
Six (6) or more years of experience working with LAN protocols including 802.1q VLAN, IPv4/IPv6 sub-netting, multicast, and other enterprise level LAN protocols
Six (6) or more years of experience working with large DNS and DHCP deployments using multiple redundant BIND and DHCP servers across multiple network segments
Four (4) or more years with security devices and protocols including firewall, proxy server, and VPN concentrator systems (e.g. Cisco ASA)
Six (6) or more years of experience working with security, troubleshooting Tier 1/Tier 2 problem determination and resolution,, and auditing tools
Four (4) or more year of experience with network cabling standards for CAT5/6 and fiber-optic
Four (4) or more years of experience working with fully and partially outsourced network.
Three (3) or more years of experience using project planning skills to be able to be an accurate and productive contributor to high profile, fast paced projects
Preferred Qualifications:
Three (3) years working in an IBM/AT&T network environment & understanding of these companies corporate cultures and processes such as DSRT, ECEP, TRSM, and PADSMART.
A Bachelors degree, preferably in Computer Science or a related field
One (1) or more years in financial lending industry
Ten (10) or more years of related experience
