Dear Sir,
Every one of us agrees that there is "No Point in re-inventing the wheel"; for $10Trillion "Make-in-India" economy by 2035, we may have three options to choose from, depending upon state ans sector:
- Fierce Catch-up - Using traditional approaches or technologies to surmount challenges at an accelerated pace....e.g. Education, Healthcare, Retail
- Significant Leap - Adopting new or different approaches and technologies that may have been developed elsewhere but that would also work in India...Agriculture, Power, Urbanization
- Leapfrog to high GDP Contribution Share levels - Create an entirely new method of business model or technology ...Manufacturing (from 12 to 25%), Mobile Internet Clouds, Financial Services (35% to 90% Access) as per PWC report.
Thanks and regards,
G.S.Autee

Subject: [MTC Global] [Weekend Big Debate] Make in India Vision Vs Reverse Engineering
One can, in principle, import technology, train engineers to run it and become a great power. China, Korea and even Japan are classical examples of economies based on ‘reverse engineering’ where a technology is purchased, cheaper alternatives of mass production are found and the same technology is made available at a lower cost to the world. One can survive and even flourish on this. It makes the nation permanently dependant on reverse engineering, cost control and quality control.
But is this a good long term solution for a nation? Where is the creativity?
