Prof Datta,

You have raised a very relevant topic.
India has vast population of youth ( Largest In the world ).
However after 70 years of Independence we do not have a single inclusive programme
to make our youth productive.
Country has vast developmental projects in almost all sectors going on including infrastructure
Railways, Shipping, where lot of opportunities exist and more can be created.
But what is missing is integration of these development programmes with education and human development.

Gandhi Insisted about it and we find him totally ignored . Engaging youth is one of the major challenges
in front of us to curb on crimes, terrorism .
I will like to narrate one experience from my life and family here -
My father was School Principle in one of biggest Schools in Aurangabad ( 10,000 Students).
This was one of top schools in the region. All the rankers in SSC were from this school .
However there used to be still students who were poor performers .
Most of the schools even today have separate coaching for bright students - he organised separate coaching
for poor performers and achieved 100% results back in 70's and 80's .
Our education system needs to have this approach .

Every student is capable and needs to be trained .We segregate only IIT and IIM students. All Coaching classes
factories focus on IIT and IIM entire middle class population of parents focus only on these.
Is there not a need to focus on other streams of education ?

You all would know by now about that famous person in Patna who conducts free coaching for bright students
from street . This year all of his 30 students got admitted to into  IIT. The point here is - India has bright students in all sections
of society . How many Higher education Institutions have taken efforts to identify bright students from poor localities?
India will become super power only when the 40%  poor population will be brought in economic mainstream .
I don't find any higher education Institution including MBA Inst which is dedicated to this . Can't we find bright students
from poor who will be tomorrow's scientists, tomorrow's entrepreneurs?

Tourism is the largest employment generator in the world . Every job out of 9 relates to Tourism sector .
Another is Sales and Marketing. Health management is one sector where lots jobs exist .
How many Management Institutes do we have which specialise in this ?
There is need to design Undergraduate courses for this sector which are well integrated with
industry . I designed one For Aviation and hospitality Industry , so far Trained about 5,000 students .
Wanted to get this curriculum University Graduation - But The administration and vested Interests saw to it
that it doesn't get approved .

About 100,000 Crores are going to be Invested ( or In Wasted ? ) in waterways in the country .
Management of waterways  needs highly trained man power . How many Institutes do we have
for shipping management ? Why not Part of this be invested in Manpower training ?
Every state that has coastal boundary can have one university in Shipping.

Aviation Ministry wanted to start flights to all two tier cities - the project is not taking off !
Do we have manpower to run airports in these cities ?
In one of the Cities in Maharashtra the new air port started where all my students operated the air port
and entire man power was my students . However the vested Interests saw to it
that my Institution closes for next batch.

The point I am making here is we need diversity of curriculum that are catering to local needs
only then the opportunities will arise . WE have very large population and the country is large.
Innovation and creativity is needed in the education systems and delivery and management .
Most of the experts think of Innovation only in Engineering designs and drawing boards.
It has to be in the mind sets first.

Thanks

There's a lot of rhetoric around the fact that within the next decade, 50% of the jobs we know today … will be replaced by new jobs that will need high levels of creativity, an entrepreneurial mindset, and high levels of interpersonal skills.

These are the important things that are missing from the education debate in most of the forums.

How are we preparing or children for the jobs of the future?"
