[MTC Global] Book Review

Deal Members,

I would like to post a Book Review, on

Loose: The Future of Business is Letting Go: How to Break the Rules of Business by  Martin Thomas

The book has too many case studies that can be used in the class by Management Teachers . Trust, openness and flexibility vs control and many leaders do follow the styles of Authoritative cum delegating and here Thomas mentions that all is required  to organise, with links to new social media. He adds that this doesn't mean anarchy is the solution, just that organisations are too tight now and should loosen up. Below is the argument. It's well presented in airport management book style. Lots of inspiring examples. But some examples are left a loose and the author moves on to the next one immediately.

Thomas identifies three important developments in modern society:
Growing chaos and complexity
New generations of employees and consumers with new skills and social expectations
New technology with the emergence of Social Media (plenty of case studies are given and not much explanation is found)
But Management Teachers we can develop on that.

Companies are not ready for this:
Tight instead of loose
Illusion of control
Tighter regulation and protocols
More time spent on planning and monitoring
But not ready to deal with unpredictable and rapid change

The solution possible:
Build a culture of trust with employees and consumers
Openness
Agility
Informality
Collaboration
50% Readers have given a rating of 4 ( very good )  out of 5 . My rating is Good.
