Job Description:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
| · Plans, creates (including scripting) and executes automated tests using an automated scripting tool: Selenium, QTP, Fitnesse, etc. · Follows the framework(s) created within Pearson eCollege for automated testing · Adds to the current automation framework(s) and/or contributes new ideas for other frameworks · Executes SQL trace to capture stored procedure execution/duration and read/writes · Performs highly complex testing on projects using technical specifications and requirements: plans, schedules and implements testing projects, defines test objectives, writes scripts (manual and automated), performs smoke, functional, system, integration, and/or regression tests, performs back end data validation verification using SQL or similar method · Investigates and reports technical issues by communicating and working with various departments including: Development, Product, Project Management, Systems and Application support groups, Network Engineering, etc. · Performs API/Web Services testing, suggests new/better methods for this testing · Writes test harnesses · Formulates test plans including systems analysis, risk analysis, writing and plotting test strategies, and determines how to report defects (pre/post- production) · Provides training and mentoring to SQ Engineers on technical aspects, including automation · Document test cases in Quality Center using requirements/User Story acceptance criteria in Rally. · Performs, documents, and communicates risk analysis · Keeps record of test progress and results using test management tools like Quality Center, Rally, and Serena's TeamShare bug reporting tool. · Reports progress of project testing to SQE Manager and project team on a weekly basis · Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma required. Bachelors degree in Computer Science preferred with three plus (3+) years work experience, or five plus (5+) years equivalent work experience. Experience with functional automated testing tools (creation, scripting, and execution) required: five plus (5+) years with tools like QTP, Selenium, Fitnesse, DB Fit, and/or SOAP UI Pro, and/or five (5+) years use of load / performance testing tools like JMeter, LoadRunner, SilkPerformer. or a combination of three (3) yrs automated testing and two (2) years performance testing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Advanced experience, knowledge, or certification required in the following: SQE methodology, SQE documentation, Agile development methodology, and testing; understanding of Waterfall development methodology.
· Proficient to advanced experience or knowledge required in: HTML; XML; Active Server Pages (ASP); JavaScript; Visual Basic, VB.NET; VB Script , SQL/TSQL (includes DML/DDL/Function commands), Stored Procedures, DB tracing, DB profiling/SQL profiler, Impact analysis, DB sharding; AJAX, JSON, XPath
· Proficient to advanced experience or knowledge required in cross browser testing, application security testing, cross site scripting (XSS), and security testing
· Proficient to advanced experience or knowledge required in a test management tool like Quality Center, Agile tools like Rally, collaboration tools like wikis, Google Docs, etc.
· Experience and understanding in virtualization technologies like VMWare and Cloud Computing
· Proficient to advanced experience in Coding Fundamentals (variable declaration, program flow, functions, error handling, Object Oriented Development, TDD concepts)
· Proficient to advanced experience testing Web Services (SOAP, REST)
· Advanced experience using estimation practices related to task durations to meet schedules in an agile software development environment
· Ability to learn and actively seek new skills and knowledge to keep up with the changing technology field, including bringing any new ideas to the SQE department
· Ability to think outside the box, adapt to circumstances, learn from co-workers, and share information and experiences
· Ability to be flexible and adapt to any given situation
· Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently
· Excellent customer service attitude, communication skills (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills
